The National Symposium 2026 of the Women Organized for Inclusion through Community Engagement (WOICE) project funded by National Endowment for Democracy was held on 26th April 2026 at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute, Colombo 07.

The event brought together women leaders from Badulla, Kandy, Kegalle, Nuwara Eliya, Matara, Monaragala, and Polonnaruwa, where the WOICE project was implemented in its second phase.

The WOICE project focuses on strengthening both emerging and experienced women leaders to become effective voices for marginalized communities while fostering unity across communities.

Hon. Dr. (Ms.) Kaushalya Ariyarathne, MP, Deputy Minister of Mass Media, attended as Chief Guest. Dr. Jehan Perera (Executive Director, National Peace Council) and Ms. Sumadhu Weerawarne Perera (Attorney-at-Law & Honorary Programme Adviser) also addressed the gathering.

A panel discussion with seven panelists representing each district was held and moderated by Ms. Sumadhu Weerawarne Perera.

Following the Chief Guest’s speech, a deep and productive discussion took place, including a Q&A session with active participation from the audience.

Participants from all seven districts attended, including coordinators, Super Group Members, Peer Group Members, and youth.

Each district presented their learnings and achievements through creative presentations such as drama, discussions, and songs.

Call for Proposals: Endline Evaluation – ACED Project

The Active Citizens for Elections and Democracy (ACED) project, funded by the EU, has been working to strengthen democratic participation and accountability in Sri Lanka and the Maldives—particularly in the face of economic challenges, shrinking civic space, and barriers to inclusive political engagement.

As the project concludes, NPC is seeking experienced consultants or consultancy firms to conduct the endline evaluation of this two-year initiative. The evaluation will assess relevance, effectiveness, efficiency, impact, and sustainability using a mixed-methods approach.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to strengthening democratic processes and inclusive governance in the region.

Eid Mubarak to all who observed the holy month of Ramadan. 🌙

The past month has been a time of patience, kindness, generosity, and self-reflection. It has been marked by caring for those in need, strengthening faith, and showing compassion to others. These are values worth holding onto every day.

As Eid is celebrated, may the spirit of Ramadan continue—choosing peace over conflict, compassion over division, and unity over hate.

May this Eid bring peace to every heart, every community, and the whole world.

Eid Mubarak 🤍
