🎈 Play can help children heal, recover, and feel safe again.

Together with our partner Centre for Children's Happiness : CCH, and with support from the Australian Government through the Australian Humanitarian Partnership, we’ve been providing mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) for children affected by Cyclone Ditwah through TeamUP - an evidence-based approach that uses structured play and movement-based activities.

Through these group sessions, children are supported to reduce stress, express emotions, build resilience, and reconnect with their peers in a safe and supportive environment.

The activities also help restore a sense of routine and normalcy in the aftermath of a disaster, while enabling trained volunteers to identify and refer children who may need additional mental health and psychosocial support.

When teachers are supported with the right tools, classrooms become powerful spaces for learning📝

Through our McGovern-Dole Food for Education and Child Nutrition Program (PALAM/A II), made possible by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, over 2,000 primary school teachers across six districts have taken part in Teacher Professional Development programmes over the past year

The trainings are based on Save the Children’s Literacy Boost approach, an evidence-based model designed to strengthen reading and writing skills among primary grade children.

Facilitated by a government-led resource pool of trainers, the sessions help teachers better understand how children learn to read and write, equipping them with practical strategies to deliver lessons more effectively and create engaging learning environments.

📖Storybooks help young learners build their skills and imagination. ✨

Through our McGovern-Dole Food for Education and Child Nutrition Program (PALAM/A II), made possible by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and together with our partner Sarvodaya, we supported the distribution of 380,000 books📚 to 426 primary schools🏫 across 📍six districts in Sri Lanka.

These books support classroom reading corners and Children’s Reading Clubs, helping young learners strengthen their reading skills, build confidence in the classroom, and nurture a lifelong love for learning.

Together with our government partner - the Ministry of Education, Sri Lanka - we are helping create learning spaces where every child has the opportunity to read, learn, and thrive.

📖 Stories shape how children see and understand the world around them 🌍

From everyday conversations to shared moments of curiosity, reading helps build language, confidence, and a lifelong love for learning.

But not every child has access to books or safe spaces to read. And without these opportunities, their ability to learn and explore can be limited far too early.

This , we're reminded that a culture of reading starts in everyday moments - at home, in communities, and beyond.

Because every child deserves the chance to discover the power of stories ✨
