š² Behind every nutritious morning meal in ECCD centres are dedicated meal providers preparing food for young children.
Through Save the Childrenās PALAM/A II Project, made possible by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's McGovern-Dole Food for Education and Child Nutrition Program, we recently completed the first round of commodity distributions in Colombo and Ratnapura, reaching over 500 meal providers in Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) centres.
Meal providers received locally sourced rice and canned fish to support the preparation of daily, nutritious, morning meals for pre-school children.
Alongside this, we will work closely with meal providers to strengthen knowledge and practice on safe food handling, hygiene, storage, and cooking methods, while reinforcing the importance of providing balanced nutrition during the early years.
These efforts support the national ECCD morning meal programme and help ensure young children receive the nutrition they need during this critical stage of growth and development.
