*Father’s Day: Beyond the Wish*
Today is Father’s Day.
Many of us no longer have our fathers with us. Their chairs are empty. Their voices live only in memory. Yet we stand here as fathers ourselves.
There is a truth we rarely say out loud: *Our children are watching.*
They learn how to be a son or daughter not from what we post today, but from how we lived the other 364 days. They saw how we spoke to our father. They saw if we called. If we showed up. If we respected him when he was weak, not just when he was strong.
One day, the roles turn. Our children will become fathers and mothers. And the care they give us will echo the care we gave. *It is a cycle.*
Right now, that cycle feels frayed. Too many fathers get a “Happy Father’s Day” text, not a visit. Too many sons are too busy to listen. Too many daughters forget that the man who once carried them now needs a steadying hand. We respected our fathers more than some of our children respect us.
But love doesn’t die. It just hides.
*To fathers:* The quiet sacrifices you made were seen, even if they weren’t thanked. The bills paid, the fears you hid, the dreams you shelved — they built your children. Keep showing up. Your example is their blueprint.
*To children:* Your father won’t be here forever. The man who taught you to ride a bike, who stayed up when you were sick, who worked jobs he hated so you could chase dreams — he needs you now. Not your money. Your time. Your respect. Your call without a reason.
Father’s Day cannot be a one-day performance. A photo, a gift, a wish — that’s easy. *Love is shown in ordinary Tuesdays.* In patience. In forgiveness. In showing up when there’s nothing to gain.
Parents are not ATMs or Uber drivers. Children are not trophies or retirement plans. *We belong to each other.* The world turns on that hidden love between parent and child.
So today, don’t just wish. *Unleash it.*
Call your father if you can. Hug your child if you can. And if your father is gone, live in a way that makes your children want to call you tomorrow.
Because the cycle continues. And we decide what kind of cycle it will be.
