The Workshop Players

The Workshop Players The WSP are a non-profit amateur theatre organization with the aim to promote talent in theatre & performing arts.

The Workshop Players, one of Sri Lanka’s foremost English amateur theatre groups, is famed for bringing some of the best of Broadway musicals such as ‘Oliver!’, ‘The Sound of Music’, ‘Evita’, The Phantom of the Opera and most recently the highly acclaimed ‘Les Miserables’ to the local stage. Founded on 07th March 1992, over the past 24 years hundreds of children, adolescents and adults from differ

ent theatre and personal backgrounds have been part of the WSP family. The group functions under the philosophy of ‘theatre with a purpose’, and has tried to share their learning with young people from less privileged backgrounds and run workshops for theatre students in Colombo, Wadduwa, Alawwa, Batticaloa, Jaffna and Trincomalee.

*Audition Call* 🎭

This October The Workshop Players will bring to life Disney's musical theatre masterpiece - *The Hunchback of Notre Dame* at the Lionel Wendt Theatre.

Open Auditions will take place on the *10th May from 10.00 am - 4.00 pm* at the Lionel Wendt rehearsal room.

*Lead Roles and Ensemble Cast: Audition Time:10.00 - 1.30 pm*

Calling amateur musical theatre performers, aged 16 and above to audition for all lead and ensemble roles in the musical. The ensemble cast of approximately 30 performers will consist of actors, singers and dancers, and those with a combination of those skills will be preferred. Musical and theatrical performance experience is advantageous but is not a prerequisite. Candidates for lead characters that require dancing skills may be asked to demonstrate those capabilities as well at the audition.



*On Stage Choir: Audition Time: 2.00 pm - 4.00 pm*

This production design calls for a large mixed voice (SATB) Choir that performs a demanding vocal score on stage for the duration of the show. The 25-30 voice Choir is separate from the ensemble cast of characters and does not require much movement on stage. Singers, aged 16 and above, especially those with prior choral experience are invited to audition. Some ability to sight-read (western) music would be an advantage.



*Dance Roles and Dancers: Audition Time:1.30 pm – 2.00 pm*

For lead roles that require dancing and for those auditioning as dancers, short dance sequences would be taught to evaluate your ability to learn and perform specific choreography.

*Rehearsals*

Details pertaining to rehearsals are also included in the above information. Those planning to audition should do so after considering their availability on those dates and their ability to commit to attending those, with only a few exceptions.

The Hunchback will be directed by Surein de S Wijeyeratne and is an amateur production that will be presented through a special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI)
