Rotary International has an observer status in the United Nations. Rotarians serve the community by implementing educational and humanitarian projects. One of the major projects implemented worldwide by

The Rotary Foundation is the Polio Eradication Project, which began in 1985. The deadly polio virus exists in only four countries, due to the untiring efforts of the Rotary movement, along with the support of UNICEF and WHO. The Rotary Foundation spent over US$ 700 million to purchase oral polio vaccine for this project. Sri Lanka has been polio free since 1995. Mission

The mission of Rotary International is to provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through its fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders. See the RI Strategic Plan . The Object of Rotary

The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

FIRST. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
SECOND. High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
THIRD. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life;
FOURTH. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service. The Four-Way Test

The test, which has been translated into more than 100 languages, asks the following questions:

Of the things we think, say or do

Is it the TRUTH? Is it FAIR to all concerned? Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned? Diversity and Rotary

Rotary International recognizes the value of diversity within individual clubs. Rotary encourages clubs to assess those in their communities who are eligible for membership, under existing membership guidelines, and to endeavor to include the appropriate range of individuals in their clubs. A club that reflects its community with regard to professional and business classification, gender, age, religion, and ethnicity is a club with the key to its future.

Driving change. Protecting lives. Building a safer Sri Lanka.

Rotary District 3220 successfully launched the “Helmet Hero” Project & Road Safety Conference, bringing together leading voices from road safety, healthcare, engineering, law enforcement and the private sector to address one of the most pressing challenges on our roads.

Dharmaratna, whose vision and leadership brought together key stakeholders to create greater awareness, inspire responsible road use and drive meaningful action towards saving lives.

The “Helmet Hero” Project goes beyond promoting helmet use, it aims to build a lasting culture of road safety, particularly among young road users, and prevent injuries, loss of life and the devastating impact road crashes have on families.

The conference was represented by Rotary District Governor Kumar Sundararaj alongside many leaders in Sri Lanka, including SSP Manoj Rnagala – Director, Traffic Police Headquarters, Eng. Aloycious Santhiapillai – Norwegian Public Roads Administration, Eng. Chandrakumara – Deputy Director General, RDA, Rtn. SHORTAI බාටයි: Connecting Rotary with the Next Generation 🌟

On 22 August 2026, nearly 100 young professionals, non-Rotarians, Rotarians and Rotaractors came together at La Langousterie, Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia, for an evening where connection met purpose.

Organized by the Rotary Club of Colombo Heritage, in collaboration with the Rotaract Clubs of Colombo Citadel, Rotaract Club of Colombo Heritage, Rotaract Club of Colombo Infinity and Rotaract Club of Gampaha, together with the Rotary District 3220 Membership Attraction Team, SHORTAI බාටයි brought a fresh, vibrant energy to Rotary.

From live music and stand-up comedy to dinner and street food, the evening created more than memories, it created conversations, friendships and a space to discover what Rotary truly represents.

Because the future of Rotary isn’t only about welcoming new members. It’s about creating a sense of belonging, inspiring new ideas and giving the next generation a reason to be part of something bigger than themselves.

SHORTAI බාටයි was more than an event. It was a glimpse of the future of Rotary, connected, inclusive, energetic and driven to make a difference. We acknowledge Rtn. Thilini Silva and the members of RC Colombo Heritage, Presidents and members of the Rotaract Clubs and the District Membership Attraction Team for successfully organizing the event.

Together, We connect people to purpose. 💙

A LIFE-CHANGING OPPORTUNITY TO RESTORE MOBILITY, DIGNITY & INDEPENDENCE

Rotary District 3220 is proud to launch a special Wheelchair Donation Project, creating an opportunity for Rotary clubs across Sri Lanka and Maldives to make a meaningful and lasting difference in the lives of individuals who are in need of mobility assistance.

For someone living without the ability to move freely, a wheelchair is far more than a piece of equipment. It can mean freedom. It can mean access to education, employment, family, community and a more independent life.

We invite all Rotary Clubs in District 3220 to identify and nominate deserving beneficiaries from your communities who would benefit from this life-changing support.

🌟 The first 100 eligible beneficiaries will be selected for this initiative.

Deadline for nominations: 15 October 2026

Clubs are encouraged to act early and submit their beneficiary applications before the deadline.

Serving with care. Sharing fellowship. Caring for our community.

On 5 September 2026, the Rotary Club of Batticaloa of Rotary District 3220 continued their cherished annual tradition of organising the Moor Panthal for pilgrims visiting the Batticaloa Ayithiayamalai Church.

With the spirit of Service Above Self, Rotarians came together to provide refreshing buttermilk to more than 2,000 pilgrims, offering comfort and hospitality along their spiritual journey.

But service did not stop at serving refreshments. Rotarians also took the initiative to clean and care for the surrounding area, helping keep the environment clean, welcoming, and respectful for everyone. Because true service means caring not only for people, but also for the places and communities we share.

We acknowledge the years of commitment of the Rotary Club of Batticaloa and well-wishers whose dedication made this initiative a meaningful success.

This is , serving with heart, caring for our surroundings, and leaving a lasting positive impact wherever we serve.

Every step counts. Every body matters. Every movement can create change.

Today, 6 September 2026, more than 250 participants came together to move, connect, and raise awareness ahead of World Physiotherapy Day at Move It Sri Lanka, reminding us that physiotherapy is not only about recovery, but also about prevention, strength, mobility, and living life to the fullest.

As the community partner, Rotary PanColombo brought the spirit of Service Above Self to life through a celebration of health, wellness, fellowship, and inclusion. From the 2KM, 5KM, and 10KM runs to the 100M Para Run, every participant had a place at the starting line.

Because inclusion is not about making space for some, it is about ensuring there is space for everyone.

Rotary District 3220 District Governor Kumar Sundararaj, Past District Governor George Jesuthasan joined the event as special guests, flagging off the Para Run and encouraging participants before the races began. The event was further strengthened by the participation of many Rotarians of multiple clubs.

This is more than a run. It is a reminder that healthier communities are built when we move together, include everyone, and turn awareness into action.

Let’s Move It together — towards stronger bodies, healthier communities, and a more inclusive future.

Strengthening partnerships. Understanding community needs to Create Lasting Impact

District Governor Kumar Sundararaj together with Rotary Club of Batticaloa Heritage President Rtn. S. Hariprasath, District officials, and club members, met with Mr. J.S. Arulraj, Government Agent and District Secretary of Batticaloa, and Mr. A. S. M. Ziyath, the Assistant Director of Disaster Management Center of Batticaloa to strengthen collaboration towards a healthier, safer, and more resilient Batticaloa.

At the heart of the discussion was Rotary’s flagship initiative, Sharp Eyes – Learn Better, dedicated to providing prescription spectacles to schoolchildren in need. Because when a child can see clearly, they can learn with confidence, participate fully, and unlock opportunities for their future.

The discussion also explored Rotary’s ongoing community initiatives and its role in El-Niño disaster preparedness, response, and community resilience With climate-related challenges placing increasing demands on communities, strong coordination between government and community organizations is more important than ever.

The guidance and local insight of government authorities are vital in ensuring Rotary initiatives are relevant, practical, well-coordinated, and reach those who need them most.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the team presented a copy of Governor's Monthly Letter (GML) reflecting Rotary District 3220 commitment to communication, transparency, and meaningful engagement with the wider community.

This is Rotary at its best, bringing leaders, communities, and partners together to understand real needs, strengthen resilience, and create solutions that deliver lasting impact.

We acknowledge President Rtn. S. Hariprasath, the District officials, and the members of the Rotary Club of Batticaloa Heritage for their commitment and coordination in advancing these important initiatives.

Together, we are preparing for tomorrow and creating lasting impact for generations to come.

OUT OF THE SHADOWS – 1333 BIKEATHON

Every life matters. Every conversation can make a difference. And sometimes, one phone call can save a life.

The 1333 Bikeathon – “Out of the Shadows”, a nationwide cycling awareness campaign against su***de, reached Trincomalee on 2 September 2026, carrying a powerful message of hope, compassion, and solidarity.

Rotarins of the Rotary Trincomalee proudly welcomed the riders and joined hands in taking this vital message to the community, encouraging people to speak about their struggles, seek help without fear, and remember that they are never alone.

With around 11 lives lost to su***de every day in Sri Lanka, su***de prevention is not just a social responsibility, it is a collective responsibility.

The CCC 1333 toll-free helpline provides confidential and free counselling for anyone facing personal, relationship, family, school, workplace, mental health, or suicidal concerns.

📞 1333 — A number to remember.
🗣️ A conversation to begin.
❤️ A life to protect.

At Rotary District 3220, we believe that creating a culture where people feel safe to speak, heard without judgment, and supported with compassion is essential to building healthier and stronger communities.

Let us bring su***de prevention out of the shadows.
Let us break the silence.

Service Above Self means standing beside people when they need us most.
