Inaguaration of Business Psychology Association of Sri Lanka BPASL

BPASL is a professional body established with the aim of promoting teaching, training and practicing of business and organizational psychology in Sri Lanka. Objectives of the organization include establishing business psychology as a recognized and an integral part of the business world, establishing standards of best practice in terms quality and ethics of the profession and working towards the growth, development and expansion of the profession and the professional development of the members.

BPASL’s watchwords are Wisdom, Well-being and Happiness and therefore the members and the board of governors should actively word towards the establishment of these values in the corporate sector through the applications of psychological insights to work place.

This is not for profit organization that is governed by a board elected by the members of the professional body. Association offers a range of different types of membership including full member (MBPA), student member (SBPA) and associate member (ABPA) and the eligibility criteria for these different tiers of membership varies based on academic and professional qualifications and expertise and experience in practice of applications of psychology in business field.

BPASL also awards honorary titles such as “Fellow of the Business Psychology Association of Sri Lanka’ (FBPASL) to eminent figures in the fields of psychology, business, state sector, research and academia who have significantly contributed to the enhancement of quality of life of humans in any setting by guiding communities through their wisdom and/ or facilitated communities improve their well-being and /or help people achieve and experience happiness as a result of their innovations, initiatives or practice of their profession.

“Life Member of Business Psychology Association of Sri Lanka’ (LBPA) is awarded to members in recognition of their service to the profession. Those who have contributed to the field of the business and organizational psychology and/or the growth and the development of the association are eligible to receive this title.

Another important goal of the BPASL is to maintain the quality and ethical standards of the profession. BPASL will work towards establishing a code of ethics and standards of best practice for members and those who practice in the field. Furthermore BPASL will work towards higher education organizations to make their curricula, teaching and training more industry relevant by sharing insights from the professionals.

Founded on 09th August 2018, the Society was inaugurated as an elegant event held and Colombo Hilton Residences with the participation of 61 founding members, many heads of institutions representing corporate and government institutes and well-wishers. Chief guest of the inauguration ceremony was Hon. Dr.Rajitha Senarathne, the Minister of Health and Indigenous Medicine of Sri Lanka and the Guest of honor was Dr.Helen Poole, the Dean of Faculty of Psychology and Society of University of Northampton UK.

BPASL was founded by Dr.Darshan Perera, the Director of Colombo Institute of Research and Psychology (CIRP).

Dr.Hasuli Perera and Dr.Lasantha Wijesekara were proposed as President and Secretary respectively, subjected to the confirmation by membership at the AGM. Mr.Niranjan Madawala and Ms.Shanika Khan are the proposed representative of the business psychology alumni in Sri Lanka, subjected to the confirmation by the membership at the AGM.
