Hela Havula is a National Movement, established on 11th January 1941, by Cumaratunga Munidasa Esq. The movement is committed to defend and secure the Hela Trinity, namely, Mothertongue (බස), Race (රැස), and Motherland (දෙස) of the Sinhalese. It was given the name 'Hela Havula' by Jayantha Weerasekara who later succeeded Cumaratunga Munidasa as its leader. Hela Havula was incorporated by the Parlia
ment of Sri Lanka with Act No. 38 of 1992. Besides Cumaratunga Munidasa, other prominent members of the movement included Ven. Moses Perera, Rev. Mercilin Jyakody, Raphael (Raipiyel) Tennekoon (poet), Jayantha Wirasekara (journalist), Amarasiri Gunawadu (poet), Jayamaha Wellala (poet), Arisen Ahubudu (poet), Gunapala Senadheera (orientalist), Hubert Dissanayake (poet) Alau Isi Sebi Hela (writer), Prof. Nandadasa Kodagoda (lyricist), Mohotti Don David (journalist), Prof. Vinnie Vitharana (writer), Prof. Weerasinghe (writer), Prof. Risiman Amarasinghe (writer), Prof. Sirimal Ranawella (epigraphist), W. J. Lokubandara (former speaker), Anandapiya Kudathihi (journalist), Jayasekara Abeyruwan (writer), A. D. Chandrasekera (critique), Sandadas Coperahewa (poet), D. V. Richard de Silva (critique), D. N. Weerakoon (writer), D. Mohotti (writer) and Nandanapala Cumaratunga (writer). The present leader of Hela Havula is Sri Nath Ganewatta. Seevali Bandara and Ravi Tilakawardana are the co-secretaries. Dr. Amarasiri Ponnamperuma, Hemasiri Cumaranatunga, A.A. Gunathilake, Jayadasa Kumarage, and K. A. I. Kalyanaratna are among the present renowned members of the movement. The prestigious journal "Subasa" is a publication of Hela Havula.
