The Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL) President & SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) Senior Vice President, Dr. Rohitha Silva, had a productive Meeting with the High Commissioner of New Zealand to Sri Lanka, His Excellency David Pine, on 28 August 2026, at the FCCISL Secretariat in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

The Meeting focused on strengthening economic cooperation; especially exports, imports, investments, joint ventures, tourism, education, sports, social and cultural connectivity between New Zealand and Sri Lanka. The discussion further focused on enhancing economic integration in the SAARC region - South Asia attracting investments and joint ventures from Asia Pacific countries such as New Zealand.

The Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL) President & SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) Senior Vice President, Dr. Rohitha Silva, had a productive Meeting with the Ambassador of Thailand to Sri Lanka, His Excellency Paitoon Mahapannaporn, on 24 August 2026, at the Royal Thai Embassy in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

The Meeting focused on Sri Lanka-Thailand Free Trade Agreement, and strengthening cooperation in trade, investment, manufacturing, technology, food security, agriculture, eco-friendly products, education, traditional industries and tourism between Thailand and Sri Lanka.

Together with the Ambassador of Thailand to Sri Lanka, His Excellency Paitoon Mahapannaporn; the Counsellor at Royal Thai Embassy Ms. Prangtip Kongridhisuksakorn took part in the Meeting.

The Consultation & Knowledge Sharing Forum on Designing a Framework of Circular Economy for South Asia was successfully co-organized by the SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) - Japan, and the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL). The Forum was held on 14 July 2026 at Cinnamon Grand, Sri Lanka.

Mr. Chandi Raj Dhakal, President SAARC CCI, delivered the Opening Remarks whilst Dr. Rohitha Silva, President FCCISL, conveyed the Welcome Note. Over 50 business companies and chamber leaders took part in the Forum.

Dr. Pham Ngoc Bao, Director (Research), and Dr. Premakumara Jagath, Director (CCET) from the IGES Japan conducted the technical session with their insightful and factual presentations on the Circular Economy Model, the Elements of the Framework, Priorities and the Way-Forward for Strategizing a Circular Economy Framework for South Asia, the SAARC Member States - Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Mr. Imran Ali, Director (Research) SAARC CCI, made an analysis on the Status Quo of the South Asian Circular Economy and the Role of the Private Sector in the Circular Economy Model in the SAARC region. Mr. Tilan M Wijesooriya, Secretary-General (Actg.) / Associate Director SAARC CCI, facilitated all sessions of the Forum.

Mr. Zulfiqar Ali Butt, Secretary-General SAARC CCI, Mr. Macky Hashim, Past President FCCISL / Past President SAARC CCI; Mr. Nawaz Rajabdeen, Past President FCCISL / EC Member SAARC CCI; Mr. Abbas Kamrudeen, Senior Vice President FCCISL / Vice Chairman SYEF; Mr. Thusith Wijesinghe, Director FCCISL / GA Member SAARC CCI; Mr. Ruwan De Silva, Director FCCISL / EC Member SAARC CCI; Mr. Saranga Wijeyarathne, Director FCCISL; Dr. Rohan Karunaratne, President CIOB / GA Member SAARC CCI; Mr. Sarath Chandrasena, Country Director (Sri Lanka), Nordic Folkecenter for Renewable Energy - Denmark; and Dr. Kapila de Zoysa, President LPTSL, graced the occasion with their presence and valuable inputs at the discussions.

After this Forum on 14 July 2026 at Cinnamon Grand Colombo, the other Sessions and Workshops on the Circular Economy Framework for South Asia were held from 15 to 17 July 2026 at the Headquarters of South Asia Co-operative Environment Programme (SACEP) in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Official delegates from Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka took part in the sessions and workshops on the Circular Economy Framework.

SAARC CCI President Mr. Chandi Raj Dhakal and FCCISL President Dr. Rohitha Silva called on the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, Hon. Vijitha Herath, on 13 July 2026 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sri Lanka.

The Hon. Minister of Foreign Affairs and the South Asian business leaders emphasized the importance of enhancing the SAARC regional cooperation in renewable energy, green economy, digitization of economic activities, investments, tourism, exports and imports. Strengthening SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) was also deliberated by the leaders in terms of facilitating business linkages among the industries of SAARC member states. The Hon. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism extended Sri Lanka's full cooperation for strengthening regional cooperation among SAARC member states - Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
