🖤 Every Thursday, we choose to speak when the world tells her to stay silent.

Across Sri Lanka, thousands of women and girls face violence - in their homes, their communities, and sometimes even in the spaces that are meant to protect them. Yet so many suffer in silence, because silence has been normalized. Because speaking up feels dangerous. Because too often, no one believes her.

Her silence is not consent.
Her strength is not an invitation.
Her pain is not something to be ignored.

At YWCA Sri Lanka, we believe that ending gender-based violence begins with each one of us- in the way we listen, the way we respond, and the way we stand beside those who are hurting. It begins when communities choose to say: not here, not ever.

💜 If you know a woman who is suffering, be the person who believes her. Be the person who speaks up. Be the person who refuses to look away.

Together, we can build a world where every woman lives with safety, dignity, and freedom - not as a privilege, but as a right.

The YWCA of Sri Lanka successfully concluded the panel discussion, “Invisible Burden: Women, Violence, and Justice in Post-War Sri Lanka,” held in alignment with the global campaign.

The event commenced with opening remarks by Sarah Arumugam, National President of the YWCA of Sri Lanka, who reflected on the long-standing commitment of the YWCA movement to promoting justice, peace, and human dignity. She highlighted the impact of conflict on women and communities, the significance of the campaign, and the urgent need to address violence against women and girls in Sri Lanka. Her remarks also provided valuable insights into the current gender-based violence (GBV) landscape in the country.

The panel discussion benefited greatly from the knowledge, expertise, and lived perspectives shared by Sister Rasika Peiris, Shreen Saroor, and Thyagi Ruwanpathirana. Their contributions provided valuable reflections on gender justice, peacebuilding, and the experiences of women in post-war contexts. The session was thoughtfully moderated by Sanjula Pietersz, whose facilitation fostered an inclusive and engaging dialogue, ensuring a meaningful exchange of ideas among panelists and participants alike.

We were pleased to welcome more than 35 participants, whose active engagement contributed to a meaningful and thought-provoking dialogue on justice, accountability, healing, and the lived realities of women in post-war Sri Lanka.

The YWCA of Sri Lanka remains committed to fostering inclusive conversations and collective action to build a society free from violence, discrimination, and inequality.

Menstrual health is an ongoing conversation, beyond any single day of awareness. It is about more than menstruation itself. It shapes dignity, access to information, education, and how freely young women and girls can take part in everyday life.

Thenuki, a YWCA Leader from the Western Province, reflects on menstrual health in her community. She highlights the challenges many girls still face, along with the need for open conversations, awareness, and better access to menstrual hygiene support.
