From Wheels to Wisdom: TM Bikers Malaysia and MFCD Empower Cyclone-Affected Students

The TM Bikers Malaysia team of Telekom Malaysia Berhad joined hands with the Muslim Foundation for Culture and Development (MFCD) for a special initiative titled “From Wheels to Wisdom” to empower the students of Al Nasser College, Colombo 14. This initiative was organized under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme of TM Bikers in conjunction with the TM Bikers Ride to Sri Lanka 2026.

The special distribution ceremony was held at the school premises on 07 May 2026 in the presence of the President of TM Bikers Malaysia, Mr. H. J. Rehan, Honorary Secretary Mr. H. J. Zaimi, Chief of Mission Mr. T. N. Harris, along with other members of the TM Bikers Malaysia team and the management team of MFCD. A total of 220 students of Al Nasser College, who were severely affected by Cyclone Ditwah, received much-needed stationery packs under this Community Outreach Programme focusing on children’s welfare and basic needs support.

In disaster contexts, MFCD prioritizes extending support to the most vulnerable segments of communities, including children who face immense challenges in continuing their education during the post-disaster period. This partnership with the TM Bikers Malaysia team of Telekom Malaysia Berhad reflects MFCD’s continued commitment to supporting Cyclone Ditwah-affected communities in Sri Lanka and empowering them to return to normalcy with dignity and hope.

Ensuring Continued Support for Vulnerable Families

The Muslim Foundation for Culture and Development (MFCD), in partnership with Community World Service Asia (CWSA), Pakistan, delivered a comprehensive relief package to families affected by the Ditwah cyclone in Ruwanwella. In April 2026, MFCD carried out this distribution with the active participation of government officials, community leaders and its own team on the ground. The relief package included dry rations and essential non-food items, enabling families to sustain their daily lives with greater independence and dignity.

In disaster contexts, MFCD prioritizes the most vulnerable communities across the country - those who endure the greatest hardships and receive the least support for recovery. Through carefully designed, targeted interventions, MFCD ensures inclusive and equitable assistance that helps families rebuild their lives with confidence and stability. By organizing village-level distributions close to affected areas, MFCD reaffirms its commitment to leaving no one behind. The organization ensures that humanitarian assistance reaches those who need it most - while upholding their dignity and respect at every stage.

Healing Beyond Relief: 300+ Attend Final NCD Screening for Ditwah-Affected Communities

A remarkable turnout marked the final Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) screening for communities affected by Cyclone Ditwah, with over 300 local community members actively participating in the medical camp held at Kalatuwawatta Temple, Ambatale.

Implemented by Church World Service Japan with the generous support of Japan Platform, this initiative was part of a series of medical camps conducted during January and February 2026 across Colombo and Kandy districts. In total, 900 people received comprehensive essential health services including Blood and urine tests, Blood pressure monitoring, ECG and BMI assessments, Family medical history evaluations, Eye examinations as well as Breast cancer screening, addressing ongoing challenges faced in the aftermath of the disaster.
Going beyond immediate relief, this intervention reflects a holistic humanitarian approach, aligned with the Sphere Association Core Humanitarian Standard on Quality and Accountability - ensuring dignity, access and long-term wellbeing for affected people.
MFCD extends its sincere appreciation to the Chief Prelate and the Trustees of Kalatuwawatta Temple for their invaluable support and gracious presence, which greatly contributed to the success of this initiative. Together, MFCD continues to stand with affected people, not only in times of crisis, but throughout their journey toward recovery and resilience.

Healing Minds, Restoring Lives: Psychosocial Support for Cyclone-Affected Communities

Church World Service Japan, with the support of the Japan Platform, successfully conducted a series of Psychological First Aid (PFA) sessions to support communities affected by Cyclone Ditwah across Colombo and Kandy Districts.

The first session, held in February 2026 in Sinhapura, Kolonnawa, one of the worst flood-affected areas, saw the participation of over 110 beneficiaries, exceeding initial expectations and highlighting the urgent need for psychosocial support services.

The sessions were facilitated by five trained counsellors who conducted individual assessments focusing on post-disaster emotional well-being, including stress, anxiety, sleep disturbances and coping mechanisms. These interventions provided immediate emotional support while identifying individuals requiring further mental health care and referrals.

At MFCD, we believe that psychological wellbeing is just as important as physical recovery. Supporting mental health is essential to help communities heal, rebuild, and regain stability after disasters.

Restoring Health & Strength in Disaster-Affected Communities 🩺

A Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) screening programme was successfully conducted in Gampola in February 2026, reaching over 260 individuals from communities affected by Cyclone Ditwah in Kandy District. Gampola was among the areas severely impacted by flooding and landslides during the disaster. We were honored by the presence of Go Igarashi, Director of Church World Service Japan, who witnessed the programme and engaged with the community.

Special emphasis was placed on older adults, particularly those above 60 years, ensuring they received priority care. The screening included a comprehensive range of services:
✔️ Blood and urine tests
✔️ Blood pressure monitoring
✔️ ECG and BMI assessments
✔️ Family medical history reviews
✔️ Eye examinations
✔️ Breast cancer screening for women

Based on the findings, participants received individual medical consultations, necessary prescriptions, and referrals to nearby government health facilities for further treatment. Basic medications were also provided on-site for minor conditions.

✨ We are committed to rebuilding healthier lives and stronger communities, one step at a time.

Restoring Dignity: Comprehensive Support for Vulnerable Families

Church World Service Japan (CWS), with the support of the Japan Platform, delivered a comprehensive relief package to families in Gampola, Kandy District, who face additional challenges during times of crisis. Implemented in February 2026, this initiative provided a holistic package of support, including dry ration packs, essential non-food items, cooking utensils and hygiene kits - helping families meet their daily needs with greater independence and dignity.

In disaster contexts, households with members who have disabilities often encounter heightened vulnerabilities, including limited mobility, reduced access to services and increased dependency. Recognizing these challenges, this intervention was designed to ensure inclusive and equitable support, enabling families to recover with confidence and stability.

Through this effort, we reaffirm our commitment to leave no one behind, ensuring that humanitarian assistance reaches those who need it most: delivered with care, respect and dignity.

Promoting Health and Wellbeing for Cyclone-Affected Communities 🏥

Church World Service Japan, with the support of the Japan Platform, conducted a series of medical camps in late January and early February 2026 to support communities affected by Cyclone Ditwah. In the Colombo District, two non-communicable disease (NCD) screening sessions were organized at accessible community locations, including Vivekaramaya Temple in Wennawatta and Sri Sumedharamaya Temple in Kotuwila, reaching over 330 individuals.

A particular focus was placed on older adults, especially those above 60 years of age. Beneficiaries received comprehensive health assessments, including blood and urine tests, blood pressure monitoring, ECG, BMI checks, family medical history assessments, eye examinations and breast cancer screening for women. Based on the results, participants received individual medical consultations, prescriptions where required and referrals to nearby government health facilities for further treatment. Basic medications were also provided on-site for minor conditions.

These interventions enabled affected communities to access essential healthcare services close to their homes, supporting their wellbeing during the post-disaster recovery period. Aligned with the Core Humanitarian Standard on Quality and Accountability, this initiative reflects a holistic humanitarian approach; going beyond immediate relief to address broader health needs and strengthen community resilience.

We remain committed to supporting communities, restoring hope and promoting dignified recovery.

Standing with Communities After Cyclone Ditwah

Following the impact of Cyclone Ditwah, many rural communities experienced significant disruption, with families facing damaged homes, loss of essential belongings and immediate humanitarian needs. Ensuring timely and safe access to assistance became critical for affected households.

In response, the Muslim Foundation for Culture and Development (MFCD), together with our partner Human Appeal – UK, ensured that relief reached families quickly and safely by bringing assistance directly to affected villages. Rather than requiring communities to travel long distances to distribution points, our teams visited local locations to deliver essential non-food items and hygiene kits, enabling families to receive support promptly while minimizing travel risks in affected areas. This approach helped ensure timely relief while protecting the safety and dignity of those we serve, in line with the Core Humanitarian Standard on Quality and Accountability.

Recovery is a journey that communities should not face alone. Together with our partners and supporters, we remain committed to standing alongside families as they rebuild their lives and move forward with resilience and hope.

Each effort reflects our commitment to humanitarian principles, ensuring assistance is delivered with care, respect and accountability.

Recovery is a journey that communities should not face alone. Together with our partners and supporters, we remain committed to standing alongside families as they rebuild their lives and move forward with resilience and hope.
