A meaningful and engaging Environmental Capitalization Workshop was conducted by GERES – France × Ceylon Chamber of Women Entrepreneurs (CCWE) and its Consortium Partners, facilitated by Ms. Elham Aghakhani of GERES.

The workshop brought together our CSO partners from across Sri Lanka to strengthen their understanding of how environmental considerations can be practically integrated into community initiatives and women’s entrepreneurship programs.

Through interactive discussions, group activities, and shared experiences, participants explored ways to make their projects more environmentally responsible, sustainable, and impactful.

The Ceylon Chamber of Women Entrepreneurs (CCWE), in collaboration with the University of Kelaniya, brought together policymakers, development partners, private-sector leaders, academics, civil society organisations and women entrepreneurs at the National Workshop “Advocating for Change: Women’s Economic Empowerment through Collective Action.”

The workshop formed part of the FAME – Feminism: Action and Mobilisation for an Inclusive Economy Project, supported by the Agence Française de Développement (AFD), and focused on identifying practical pathways to create a more inclusive and enabling entrepreneurial ecosystem for women in Sri Lanka.

The national dialogue provided a platform to bring together policy-level perspectives with the experiences of women entrepreneurs and grassroots organisations, while presenting research evidence on the barriers, opportunities and institutional changes required to strengthen women’s participation in entrepreneurship and economic development.

Welcoming participants, Ceylon Chamber of Women Entrepreneurs President Dr. Ayanthi Gurusinghe emphasised that women’s economic empowerment cannot be achieved through isolated interventions or training programs alone. She highlighted the importance of connecting women entrepreneurs with finance, technology, markets, knowledge, networks and policy-making institutions, while ensuring that the voices of women at community level are represented in national discussions. She noted that the purpose of “Advocating for Change” is to bring these different voices together and move from identifying challenges towards practical and sustainable solutions.

Dr. Gurusinghe further stressed the importance of collective action among government institutions, development partners, academia, the private sector, women’s chambers and community organisations to create meaningful economic opportunities for women across Sri Lanka.
