Sri Lanka is one of the fast developing nations which understand the causes and reasons of social inequality and injustice also with comprehension of the importance of investing in human resources so as to promote social and economic farness for all. By reasons for some weaknesses encountered in the prevailed systems since the times gone by has ascended, poverty, social seclusion, issues related t
o ethnicity- language –religion and conflicts deeply embedding destabilized confidence and tension among groups. While youth unrest emerged in 1971 in the form of insurrection in the South the freedom seekers in the North and East entered into a battle with the forces which had continued for the last three decades. Both incidents had created huge amount of damages to the lives of the people their living means, infra-structure and the unity of the people within different ethnic groups. Poverty in Sri Lanka like in other countries has its own characteristics and dimensions. Other than income poverty the community also suffers due to other setbacks such as social, human, physical, and environmental poverty too. CCD was formed to work with the people as a social entity to act on socio/economic /development of the people in the form of a nonprofit- nonpolitical institution.
