Exposition of Sacred Buddha Relics at College 22nd May 2026 On 22nd May 2026 an exposition of Sacred Relics of Lord Buddha was arranged by the College in association with the Buddhist Society and the OBA for the benefit of thousands of our students, teachers, parents and those connected to Nalanda.

The association played a major role in this most sacred religious exercise by making all arrangements at the Malalasekera Hall and by also organising two dan sela’s , for the benefit of every one who took part.

We are most grateful to our Deputy Organiser Charith Mallawarachchi who sponsored these two dansela’s and also shouldered the responsibility of most arrangements with regard to hall decorations etc

Nalanda OBA organised a leadership development workshop for prefects of the College on 13th May 2026 with their Vice President (Rtd) Major General Ubaya Medawala, as the resource person.

More than 100 prefects from different batches took part in this programme, which turned out to be a very interesting one for them with interactive sessions and group project.

The OBA wishes to thank Rtd Maj Gen Ubaya Medwala, for his efforts in presenting a very useful session for the prefects, which would certainly help them become better individuals and skillful leaders during their future careers.

Principal Mr Iran Champika Silva, Deputy Principal Mr Charitha Kushan and OBA’s Executive President Mr Mohan Gunadasa and General Secretary Mr Varuna Ratnaweera also took part in this programme.

Nalanda College will soon create another unique record by becoming the first Carbon Neutral Certified school in Sri Lanka. The energy audit to obtain this certification has already been conducted and it is expected to that the certificate will be awarded to the College on the World Environment Day which falls on 05th June

Nalanda 98 Group sponsored the cost of obtaining this certification with a donation of
Rs 265,091/- and the funds for same was handed over to the Principal Mr Iran Champika Silva, last week (06th May) by their President Mr Kasun Narangoda in the presence of their members Dr Harsh*tha Nethagee and Dr Jagathdeva Vidanagama.
Nalanda OBA’s Executive President Mr Mohan Gunadasa, General Secretary Mr Varuna Ratnaweera, Treasurer Mr Lahiru Liyanage and Deputy Organiser, Mr Charith Mallawarachchi were also present on this occasion.

Nalanda OBA extended financial assistance to two of our students, Yasanda Seneviratne and U A Sangeeth Chamikara who participated in the 10th World Junior Wushu Competition in Tianjin, China.

Financial contributions were presented to them by the Executive President of the OBA, Mr Mohan Gunadasa and Principal, Mr Iran Champika Silva with the participation of their Treasurer, Mr Lahiru Liyanage and General Secretary, Mr Varuna Ratnaweera

Old Nalandians' Sports Club is in the process of compiling a comprehensive list of Nalandians who have represented Sri Lanka in sports.

The draft document prepared by them for this purpose is attached.
