🧵✨ Ma Sevana Sewing Project – Progress Update ✨🧵

The Ma Sevana Sewing Project continues to make encouraging progress as participants develop valuable sewing and dressmaking skills that can support their future independence and livelihoods.

The most recent class had an attendance of seven students. The students demonstrated great enthusiasm and commitment, with new participants learning to cut patterns for maternity dresses and one student successfully completing a significant portion of her maternity dress.

Looking ahead, IWCC is excited to welcome nine students, together with the Matron, for the upcoming saree jacket classes as the programme continues to expand its practical training opportunities.

To support the next phase of learning, nine fabric packs containing poplin and terrin material, along with marker paper, were delivered to the Home. These resources will help participants continue their hands-on training and further strengthen their tailoring skills.

Every stitch represents progress, confidence, and opportunity. IWCC is grateful to member Saroj Amalean for her continued support to this initiative that helps empower women through skills development and self-reliance.

IWCC Continues Support for Mental Health and Patient Wellbeing at Divisional Hospital, Kandana 🌱🌿

IWCC recently made its third visit to Divisional Hospital, Kandana, reaffirming its commitment to supporting mental health and patient wellbeing through sustainable community initiatives.

As part of its second contribution to the hospital’s therapeutic gardening programme, IWCC donated 100 plants together with pots, fertilizer, and other growing materials to help expand and sustain gardening as a structured therapeutic activity for patients. This initiative continues to provide meaningful opportunities for engagement, recovery, and personal growth through interaction with nature.

During the visit, seeni sambol buns were also distributed to patients as a gesture of care and support.

IWCC is honoured to partner with Divisional Hospital, Kandana, in fostering environments that promote healing, dignity, and wellbeing, and the Club looks forward to continuing this meaningful collaboration.

Creating Comfort & Sharing Joy: IWCC Supports Sith Sewana Home for Differently-Abled Children 🌈

As part of its ongoing commitment to community outreach and social responsibility, IWCC recently visited Sith Sewana to support the well-being of its 80 resident children.

IWCC donated 30 mattresses, 30 pillows, 30 mattress covers, and milk powder, helping to provide greater comfort and care for the children 🛏️🥛

Beyond the donations, members spent meaningful time with the children, sharing chocolates and treats while creating moments of joy, connection, and laughter. 🍫😊

This initiative reflects IWCC’s continued dedication to making a positive impact within the community and supporting those who need it most.

The Club extends its sincere appreciation to all members who contributed to making this project a success. Together, we can continue to create meaningful change and bring hope to the lives of others.

Revisit to Divisional Hospital, Kandana 🌱🪴

The Inner Wheel Club of Colombo (IWCC) was pleased to revisit the Divisional Hospital, Kandana, as part of the continued commitment towards supporting the Therapy and Rehabilitation Programme initiated earlier this year.

Members were amazed to witness the remarkable progress of the orchid plants introduced during the first phase of the project, with many having doubled in size under the dedicated care of the patients and hospital staff. The initiative continues to demonstrate the positive impact of therapeutic gardening in promoting healing, mindfulness, and emotional wellbeing.

IWCC was also delighted to learn that the patients are preparing to participate in an exhibition scheduled for December 2026, where they hope to proudly showcase the plants and flowers they have carefully nurtured throughout the programme.

During the visit, IWCC members distributed food parcels, bedsheets, pillowcases, puzzles, games, and milk powder to further support the comfort, wellbeing, and rehabilitation journey of the patients.

The Club remains inspired by the dedication of the medical and nursing staff, whose compassion and commitment continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the patients.

IWCC looks forward to continuing this impactful initiative and supporting programmes that foster healing, hope and empowerment through community service 💚

Ma Sevana Sewing Project Update - Stitching Skills, Building Confidence 🧵✨

The sewing project participants continue to make excellent progress, developing their garment-making skills and growing in confidence through regular practical training.

In addition to sewing, participants are engaging in a variety of supportive and enriching activities including dance and singing, basic Sinhala reading and writing, cookery sessions, and weekly therapy support. These activities play an important role in promoting wellbeing, personal development, and social connection.

The IWCC is currently exploring ways to strengthen and expand access to therapeutic support to ensure participants continue to receive the required care and trauma-informed treatment. The Club remains hopeful for opportunities and partnerships that will help enhance these vital services for the participants.

Restoring Mobility and Hope

The Inner Wheel Club of Colombo is proud to have supported the donation of two artificial limbs at a total value of LKR 108,000. The two beneficiaries include a war veteran and a gentleman who lost his limb in a vehicle accident.

These prosthetic limbs will greatly enhance their mobility and quality of life for the next four years, after which replacement limbs will be provided.

The Club extends its heartfelt gratitude to Mrs. Rohini Tudawe for her generous donation towards this project and for her dedicated leadership in successfully carrying it forward.

IWCC Celebrates Avurudu in Style ☔✨

The Inner Wheel Club of Colombo came together last week to celebrate the Sinhala and Tamil New Year in true festive spirit. 🌸✨

Members enjoyed a delightful spread of traditional Sri Lankan delicacies while sharing laughter, warmth, and camaraderie. The rainy weather added an extra touch of fun to the occasion giving everyone the perfect opportunity to proudly test the Club’s brand-new Inner Wheel umbrellas! ☔

✨ Ma Sevana Sewing Project Update ✨

Following the Avurudu holidays, the participants attended their first sewing class this week with great enthusiasm. The participants have successfully completed sewing baby suits and dresses and have now moved on to cutting the blocks for their next project — a bed jacket. 🧵✂️

Currently, 10 participants are attending classes, and by next week the number is expected to increase to 13. The Club has coordinated with the main office to ensure all 13 participants are able to continue the course as planned. Any missed classes will also be covered during the week, depending on the instructor’s availability.

To mark the first class after Avurudu, ribbon cake was shared with the girls, adding a little sweetness to the day. 🎂💛

The Club is thrilled to see the participants progressing steadily and gaining valuable sewing skills for their future.

🏏Supporting Young Talent Through Sports 🏏

The Inner Wheel Club of Colombo donated cricket bats, stumps, wickets and balls to the B/Kogulam Tamil Vidyalaya Idalgashinna school in Haputale.

Through this initiative, the Club hopes to encourage greater participation in sports and support the development of teamwork, discipline, and healthy recreation amongst students, while also strengthening opportunities to develop their sporting skills. Access to sporting equipment plays an integral role in nurturing young talent and building confidence on and off the field.

The Club hopes these resources contribute to many enjoyable and successful cricketing moments and empower future generations through education and sport.
