The heat doesn’t hit everyone equally.

When temperatures rise, workers don’t get to pause. They shift hours. Lose income. Push through pain.

This Labour Day, we're uplifting the voices of those who keep our cities running, even through merciless heatwaves.

If you've ever felt the impacts of heat in your life, share your story at the link in bio.

Be part of the evidence we're building to prove that polluters must be held accountable for extreme weather disasters.

Just because these losses can't be counted in money, doesn't mean it hurts any less.

Who is responsible for the climate crisis? We already know the answer. The fossil fuel industry cannot keep profiting while communities suffer.

Stand up for climate justice.

Across South Asia, people face floods, heatwaves, crop loss, and displacement — despite contributing far less to the climate crisis per capita and historically.

Big polluters knew the damage their actions would cause.

They kept extracting.
They kept profiting.

Climate justice means making polluters pay, protecting frontline communities, and putting people before profit.

This movement needs people power — and resources.

Cyclone Ditwah changed thousands of lives overnight.

In November 2025, days of extreme rainfall triggered catastrophic flooding and landslides across Sri Lanka.

The numbers tell part of the story, but the real loss goes beyond numbers. 💔

⚠️Families displaced.
⚠️Children afraid of the rain.
⚠️Communities losing their homes, culture, and sense of safety.

Scientific analysis shows that climate change made the rainfall from Cyclone Ditwah up to 160% more intense.

Yet Sri Lanka contributes less than 0.1% of global emissions.

This is climate injustice.

Communities who did the least to cause the crisis are paying the highest price.

It’s time for the biggest polluters to take responsibility.

Make climate polluters pay.

On March 3rd, Greenpeace South Asia launched Issue Brief 4.0 at the Sri Lanka Press Institute, documenting the devastating Loss & Damage left behind by Cyclone Ditwah, over 650 lives lost, 2.3 million people affected, and communities still rebuilding from floods, landslides, and displacement.

A powerful panel discussion was moderated by Natasha Van Hoff from People's Alliance for Right to Land, featuring Anita Perera from GPSA Dr. Amali Wedagedara from Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies, Researcher Amalini Desayrah, and the environmental activist Dulanjaya Mahagamage examining the full human, economic, social, and environmental toll of Cyclone Ditwah.

This isn't just a natural disaster. It's a climate justice crisis, driven by the emissions of the world's biggest polluters, who must be held accountable.
The fossil fuel corporations profiting from this destruction owe real reparations to the communities in Sri Lanka and across South Asia. Non-economic losses must be formally acknowledged in restoration and compensation programmes. And the countries and corporations most responsible for driving climate change must finance this recovery. Not as charity, but as accountability.
