Mannar isn't just enduring the climate crisis, it’s rising to demand justice. ✊🌊

Rather than waiting for aid, the people of Mannar are stepping up as local leaders, scientists, and advocates.
By keeping community-led climate diaries, and using public art to tell their truths, they are turning lived reality into hard evidence.

They are demonstrating what community-led resilience looks like, and using it to hold the world's biggest polluters accountable for the loss and damage they've caused.
Mannar is leading the way. Now, it's time for us to back them up.

Want to be part of something big? This October, hundreds of people will come together at Keeri Beach, Mannar for The Rising, a large-scale community art action for climate justice.

We’re looking for energetic, reliable volunteers to help make it happen, from welcoming participants and guiding groups to keeping everyone safe, hydrated and supported.

📍 Keeri Beach, Mannar
📅 9th to 11th October
⏰ Commit to all three days
🗣️ Native Tamil speakers especially welcome

Transport, meals, refreshments and accommodation in Mannar (where applicable) will be provided.

From consultation to consent. From being heard to having a say.

On 28 September, Greenpeace South Asia launched From Consultation to Consent: Community Voices in Sri Lanka’s Marine and Coastal Governance in Colombo.

Shaped by weeks of listening and engagement with coastal and Indigenous communities, the Brief calls for Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) to be central to decisions affecting their lands, waters and livelihoods.

The work continues. In the lead-up to C*D COP17, we will use the findings to advocate for community rights, local knowledge and meaningful participation in Sri Lanka’s biodiversity planning.

We are completely blown away by the overwhelming response to Pedal for The Rising! In just a short time, cyclists and athletes from all over have stepped up to ride 320 KM from Colombo to Mannar in solidarity with frontline coastal communities.
