Ever considered that clean water begins upstream?
That’s why we’re starting water resource management where the water starts.

World Vision Lanka is piloting an integrated water resource management project in Bogawanthalawa, in the central hills of Sri Lanka focusing on restoring and protecting vital catchment areas. Communities have come together to clear overgrowth and prepare the land for the next phase, planting endemic trees that will help sustain water sources for generations to come.

A heartfelt thank you to the community members who generously gave their time and effort to make this possible. Your commitment is helping keep water clean, as it makes its way down stream.

Ministry of Crab has once again partnered with us to help yet another vulnerable school, this time from the Nawagattegama area, North Western Province.

Through a generous pledge of USD 12,000, their partnership will provide IT equipment, musical instruments, and sports equipment to Ana/Inginimitiya Maha Vidyalaya in Anamaduwa. The school has 345 students currently.

World Vision commenced a milestone initiative - Shiksha/Kalvi project to transform 50 vulnerable schools in 50 weeks focusing on improving school facilities and building better learning environments for students.

Ministry of Crab’s first project with us provided a fully equipped IT lab to a school in Kalpitiya making digital education accessible to 415 students.

Thank you Ministry of Crab for your generosity!

Here at World Vision, we value partners who take the time to see how their support looks on the ground.

The Mihikatha Lanka (ACCESS Sri Lanka/ பூமிப்பெண Boomippen) project recently welcomed Kiril Lordanov (Head of Development, High Commission of Canada) and Trevor Ludowyke (Senior Development Officer, High Commission of Canada) to visit project sites and experience the progress firsthand.

Supported by World Vision Canada and the Government of Canada, the project is empowering women farmers and community leaders with climate-smart agriculture skills to build stronger, more secure food systems.

During the visit, the team met Sandya Kumari, a woman farmer managing her own climate-smart farm. She shared how training in soil and water management has helped her adapt to climate challenges and improve her harvest.

They also heard from farmer groups who spoke about how they are now identifying community issues, raising their voices, and working together to find solutions.

Finally, at a Farmer Field School, also called a ‘school without walls’, farmers demonstrated hands-on learning, including how they use water level scales provided by the project to better manage irrigation and protect their crops.

It was a visit that showcased the project’s progress and what’s left to come!

Here’s something exciting for youth in the Western and Central Provinces of Sri Lanka!

1,500 young people will get the chance to build confidence, grow their leadership skills, and take an active role in their communities through a project funded by the German Government (BMZ).

This project is implemented in partnership with the Centre for Social Concern, T-Field Child Development Federation, and Good Shepherd Convent.

Through World Vision’s IMPACT+ model, youth will come together to learn, connect, and grow. They will also receive career guidance and job readiness support, while being encouraged to raise their voices through Citizen Voice and Action (CVA) and advocacy.

And the impact is already proven! In the past:
Over 1,000 youth built confidence and leadership skills,
More than 800 gained job-ready skills,
959 received career guidance,
And 175 youth-led community projects created real change.

In the coastal villages of Vaharai and Muthur, most families rely on fishing and aquaculture for their daily livelihood.

The 2025 indebtedness assessment by our EMPOWER Project revealed that over 70% of debt-affected households are fisherfolk.

"Many families in our village turned to high-interest microloans just to survive after the displacements. But those loans only pushed us deeper into debt," says Vimaleshwary from Sampoor.

To help them understand the vicious cycle of debt and to help them break free of it through good financial practices such as saving, the project conducts street drama in all 32 villages.

"This street drama has allowed our people already struggling with loans to think differently, start saving, and find a better path for the future," said by Vimaleshwary.

Children, youth, and adults actively participate in these awareness events, while leaflets are distributed to reinforce key messages.

By using storytelling and community dialogue, the street dramas make financial awareness simple, relatable, and accessible for everyone.

Is it truly ENOUGH if school meals stop from grade 5, just when children are still growing, learning, and dreaming bigger?

“If children in primary, middle, and senior schools all receive meals, fewer would fall ill and they would be able to study better too,” shares Sakithma (14) from Navagaththegama during our Child and Youth-led Research.

“We received meals from school only when we were in primary grades,” shared Afraz from Kalpitiya.

For many children like Sakithma and Afraz, who come from economically vulnerable communities, school meals were a vital support during their early years.

As they grow older, however, providing a nutritious meal every day can become a challenge for the schools.

We hope these powerful voices will spark meaningful conversations and inspire action among decision-makers. With strengthened support and the right funding, we can work together to ensure every child continues to receive the nourishment they need.
