FPA Sri Lanka Working in synch with the Sri Lankan psyche has allowed FPA Sri Lanka to understand the issues and anticipate the needs of marginalized social groups.

The Family Planning Association of Sri Lanka (FPA Sri Lanka) is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) that works to increase access to sexual and reproductive health and rights in Sri Lanka. The first year in its new avatar has been a challenging and active one for the organization, as it cemented its position as an innovator, activist and trusted friend. Taking proactive action ensured that FPA Sri Lanka was positioned in the right place at the right time to reach out to those in need of SHR products, services, support and care. Reaching out to the vulnerable and marginalized groups such as the Internally Displaced People, adolescents and people living with HIV, FPA Sri Lanka succeeded in breaking new ground by stepping into bridge the gaps within the system. New technology was used to create awareness and create a space for a positive dialogue on SHR issues, products and services. FPA Sri Lanka also succeeded in building trust among its peers, state and non state actors to work in unison towards the common goal of ensuring SRH rights to all as envisaged by the United Nation’s Millennium Development Goals.

𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐊𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐥𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐁𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐂𝐡𝐨𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬

Government officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Colombo District Secretariat and Thimbirigasyaya Divisional Secretariat participated in a Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) awareness programme conducted by our Seethawaka Service Delivery Point.

The session provided information on reproductive health, HIV/STIs, menstrual hygiene, and the prevention of breast, cervical and prostate cancers, along with other key SRH concerns.

The session was facilitated by Dr. Indika Ellawala, Chief Medical Officer of Health, at the Nila Medura Auditorium, Narahenpita.

On 22 September 2026, we convened the first Steering Committee Meeting of the Inclusive Health Project, funded by the Embassy of France in Sri Lanka and implemented in partnership with FPA Sri Lanka.

Representatives from the French Embassy, key government ministries including Women & Child Affairs, Education, and Rural Development, along with disability rights INGOs and CSOs, came together to review the project overview, key objectives and upcoming activities, and align on the way forward.

We thank all our partners for their valuable guidance and shared commitment to advancing inclusive healthcare in Sri Lanka.

Highlights from the IPPF SPRINT Project Simulation Exercise, held on 4–5th September at the Sri Lanka Army Centre for Disaster Response Training (SLACDRT), Gampola.

The two-day exercise brought together 25 government stakeholders from Kandy District to practise applying the Minimum Initial Service Package (MISP) for Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) in emergency scenarios, strengthening coordination and response preparedness.

Breaking Barriers, Building Inclusion!

A meaningful session on SRHR, with a special focus on SRHR-related signs in Sinhala and Tamil Sign Language, was conducted for sign language interpreters under the purview of the RFSU project, with support from the Sri Lanka Central Federation of the Deaf.

The session aimed to strengthen interpreters’ knowledge, confidence, and vocabulary to support accessible, accurate, and inclusive SRHR information for Deaf and hard-of-hearing communities.

Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) sessions were conducted for young people in the Neelabamma, Kalpitiya and Nirmalapura MOH areas in Puttalam.

The sessions were facilitated by trained peer educators from the Youth Network for Health – Puttalam. Participants discussed topics including menstruation, pregnancy, myths and misconceptions, and STIs/STDs.

Through the RFSU project, we continue to create safe spaces for young people to access accurate information and strengthen their knowledge.
