The Family Planning Association of Sri Lanka (FPA Sri Lanka) is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) that works to increase access to sexual and reproductive health and rights in Sri Lanka. The first year in its new avatar has been a challenging and active one for the organization, as it cemented its position as an innovator, activist and trusted friend. Taking proactive action ensured that FPA S

ri Lanka was positioned in the right place at the right time to reach out to those in need of SHR products, services, support and care. Reaching out to the vulnerable and marginalized groups such as the Internally Displaced People, adolescents and people living with HIV, FPA Sri Lanka succeeded in breaking new ground by stepping into bridge the gaps within the system. New technology was used to create awareness and create a space for a positive dialogue on SHR issues, products and services. FPA Sri Lanka also succeeded in building trust among its peers, state and non state actors to work in unison towards the common goal of ensuring SRH rights to all as envisaged by the United Nationโ€™s Millennium Development Goals.

A Comprehensive S*xuality Education (CSE) Roll-Out Session was conducted for youth from the Mundalama MOH Division in the Puttalam District. The session was facilitated by trained youth leaders from the Youth Network for Health โ€“ Puttalam, who have been equipped as peer trainers on S*xual and Reproductive Health, Rights and Justice (SRHRJ) and Comprehensive S*xuality Education (CSE).

During the one-day programme, participants engaged in discussions on key topics including puberty, reproductive anatomy, menstruation, pregnancy, and sexually transmitted infections and diseases (STIs/STDs), enhancing their understanding of essential health and well-being issues.

This initiative highlights the impact of peer-led education in promoting SRHR awareness among young people. It strengthens community-level understanding while empowering youth to become informed advocates for their own health and rights.

We are pleased to share the successful completion of the Sustainable Social Entrepreneurship Business Module under the IPPF Stream II S*x Work Consortium Policy Project, facilitated with the support of Business Consultant, Dr. Lasantha Wickremesooriya.โฃโฃ

Over five days, participating organizations engaged in intensive learning on building sustainable social enterprise models. The programme concluded on 10th June, where each organization presented their developed business concepts.โฃโฃ
Continued support will be provided to strengthen and operationalize these social enterprises. This includes financial assistance, along with technical guidance and other key resources for each organizaton to support long-term sustainability.โฃโฃ

FPA Youth, in collaboration with the Nuravi Foundation, organized a Comprehensive S*xuality Education (CSE) session for students of Upananda College, Manawila, Galle.

The session was conducted by Dr. Amila Chandrasiri, Consultant Community Physician, with facilitation support from Mrs. Chishani Thenuwara, Attorney-at-Law. A total of 250 students actively participated in the programme.
