The Family Planning Association of Sri Lanka (FPA Sri Lanka) is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) that works to increase access to sexual and reproductive health and rights in Sri Lanka. The first year in its new avatar has been a challenging and active one for the organization, as it cemented its position as an innovator, activist and trusted friend. Taking proactive action ensured that FPA S

ri Lanka was positioned in the right place at the right time to reach out to those in need of SHR products, services, support and care. Reaching out to the vulnerable and marginalized groups such as the Internally Displaced People, adolescents and people living with HIV, FPA Sri Lanka succeeded in breaking new ground by stepping into bridge the gaps within the system. New technology was used to create awareness and create a space for a positive dialogue on SHR issues, products and services. FPA Sri Lanka also succeeded in building trust among its peers, state and non state actors to work in unison towards the common goal of ensuring SRH rights to all as envisaged by the United Nationโ€™s Millennium Development Goals.

Here are some picture highlights and a testimonial from the Youth Camp held in Passara, Badulla, organized by the Moneragala Service Delivery Point. The camp brought together young people from disaster-affected communities for learning, discussion, and peer engagement on topics related to family health, sexual and reproductive health, leadership, and well-being.

Through interactive sessions and shared experiences, the programme created a space for youth to build confidence, strengthen knowledge, and support one another for a healthier future.

As part of the RFSU-supported project on the intersection of disability and SRHR, FPA Sri Lanka continues its work to improve access to inclusive health education for the deaf community in Sri Lanka.

Last year, teachers from special education schools were trained on SRHR topics and relevant sign language terminology to support effective classroom teaching. Today marked the beginning of the teacher evaluation and review process, which will cover four schools across several provinces.

The first session was held at the Islamic Centre for the Physically Handicapped, where six teachers conducted SRHR lessons based on selected health curriculum topics. The sessions were evaluated by Mr. Brian from the Sri Lanka Central Federation of the Deaf and Mr. Ranjith from the Special Education Department.

This initiative is important in ensuring that children with hearing impairments have equal access to accurate SRHR information. Through programmes such as these, FPA Sri Lanka continues to promote inclusive education and accessible health information for all.
