The Family Planning Association of Sri Lanka (FPA Sri Lanka) is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) that works to increase access to sexual and reproductive health and rights in Sri Lanka. The first year in its new avatar has been a challenging and active one for the organization, as it cemented its position as an innovator, activist and trusted friend. Taking proactive action ensured that FPA S

ri Lanka was positioned in the right place at the right time to reach out to those in need of SHR products, services, support and care. Reaching out to the vulnerable and marginalized groups such as the Internally Displaced People, adolescents and people living with HIV, FPA Sri Lanka succeeded in breaking new ground by stepping into bridge the gaps within the system. New technology was used to create awareness and create a space for a positive dialogue on SHR issues, products and services. FPA Sri Lanka also succeeded in building trust among its peers, state and non state actors to work in unison towards the common goal of ensuring SRH rights to all as envisaged by the United Nation’s Millennium Development Goals.

We recently conducted a programme at Brandix Apparel Solutions (Pvt) Ltd, helping connect employees with the health services available through FPA Sri Lanka’s Koggala Service Delivery Point (SDP).

Located to serve the Koggala EPZ and surrounding areas, our Koggala centre provides accessible and confidential sexual and reproductive health services, education and awareness programmes, counselling and support for individuals and communities.

Is your organisation based in Koggala or a nearby area? We’d be happy to connect and explore how our services can support your employees.

FPA Sri Lanka’s SDP in Kilinochchi, in collaboration with the National Aquaculture Development Authority (NAQDA), conducted an awareness session on Gender-Based Violence for the Akkarayankulam fishing community on 19 August.

More than an awareness session, it was an opportunity to encourage dialogue, challenge harmful attitudes and strengthen community understanding around preventing GBV.

We extend our special appreciation to Mr. Nishanthan, Assistant Director of NAQDA, the coordinating focal point, and Mr. Thuvarahan, resource person, for their valuable support.

Awareness is the first step. Collective action is how we create change.

We are proud to have launched our partnership with the Sri Lanka National Federation of the Visually Handicapped through the Breaking the Silence project, promoting accessible sexual and reproductive health (SRH) education, counselling, and informed decision-making for blind and visually impaired individuals.

The partnership agreement was formally signed on the day of the first workshop, marking an important step towards strengthening inclusive SRH services. Dr. Chintha Rupasinghe, Director – SRH, and Ms. Hema Ranawake, Assistant Director – Alokaya, participated as resource persons, contributing to the session through their expertise and experience. The workshop focused on strengthening SRH knowledge and confidence while promoting inclusive communication, privacy and confidentiality, dignity, safeguarding, and informed consent.

Through our Alokaya Counselling Centre, we remain committed to creating a more inclusive and empowering SRH environment where everyone can access the information and support they deserve.

Together, let’s break the silence and build a more inclusive future.
