An unforgettable moment for Sri Lankan sport ⚡

Rumesh Tharanga has etched his name into the history books with a remarkable 92.62m throw at the Rome Diamond League, establishing a new Sri Lankan National Record and the world's best javelin performance of 2026, recording one of the greatest javelin throws in athletics history.

Awarded an IOC Olympic Solidarity Scholarship in 2025 as part of his preparation for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, Rumesh continues to raise the Sri Lankan flag on the global stage and inspire the next generation of athletes.

Developing the foundations of effective sports administration 🌟

Day 3 of the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka's Sport Administrators Course 2026 in Jaffna focused on developing the leadership, management, and governance competencies required to effectively lead and manage sports organizations.

Participants engaged in sessions covering communication, leadership, decision-making, problem-solving, time management, conflict management, public administration, governance, constitutions, risk management, health and safety, and information technology. The sessions were conducted by National Course Directors Group Captain (Rtd.) Nalin De Silva, Professor Shemal Fernando, Ms. M.K.A. Anoma Rathnayaka, and Mr. Gobinath Sivarajah.

The participants were also joined by Mr. Niluka Karunaratne OLY, Chairman of the Athletes' Commission of NOC Sri Lanka, whose presence further enriched the learning experience and reinforced the importance of athlete-centred leadership within sport.

As the programme continues in Jaffna for the first time in 16 years, participants are gaining practical knowledge and skills to strengthen sports administration and governance throughout Sri Lanka.

NOC Sri Lanka Marks World Environment Day 2026 in Jaffna 🌿

In celebration of World Environment Day 2026, participants of the 2nd Sport Administrators Course 2026 took part in a tree planting programme in Jaffna, reaffirming their commitment to environmental sustainability and community engagement.

Held under the global theme, "Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.", the initiative was attended by NOC Sri Lanka General Secretary Mr. Rifdy Fahmy, General Manager Mr. Lal Wickrematunge, Chairman of the Athletes' Commission of NOC Sri Lanka Mr. Niluka Karunaratne OLY, course instructors, participants, and staff members, symbolizing a shared commitment to protecting the environment for future generations.

Building sport on a foundation of integrity, inclusion, and excellence ✨

The second day of the 2nd Sport Administrators Course 2026 focused on the values that underpin a strong and sustainable sporting system.

Participants explored topics including ethics in sport, fair play, Olympic values, sustainability, gender equality, athlete protection, competition fixing, dispute resolution, sport science, and technology, while also examining pathways for athlete and coach development.

Delivered by Group Captain (Rtd.) Nalin De Silva, Professor Shemal Fernando, Ms. M.K.A. Anoma Rathnayaka, and Mr. Gobinath Sivarajah, the sessions encouraged meaningful discussion on the responsibilities of sports administrators in shaping a safer, fairer, and more inclusive sporting future.

Building knowledge. Strengthening leadership. Inspiring the future ⚡

Day 1 of the 2nd Sport Administrators Course 2026 concluded successfully in Jaffna, marking the first time the programme has been conducted in the city in 16 years.

A total of 36 participants (6 female and 30 male), representing the Department of Sports under the Ministry of Youth and Sports, SAMS College, University of Jaffna undergraduates, and other sports institutions across the Northern Province, took part in this edition of the programme.

Sessions were conducted by National Course Directors Group Captain (Rtd.) Nalin De Silva, Professor Shemal Fernando, Ms. M.K.A. Anoma Rathnayaka, and Mr. Gobinath Sivarajah, together with Guest Facilitators Mr. V. Raguvarman and Dr. Shanmugasuntharam Kajendran, covering the Olympic Movement, athlete support, anti-doping, sport medicine, ethical sport, and the societal impact of sport.

It is with profound sadness that the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka and the Commonwealth Games Association of Sri Lanka mourn the passing of Mr. H.U. Silva, former Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka and the Commonwealth Games Association of Sri Lanka.

A dedicated sports administrator and respected leader, Mr. Silva devoted many years of service to the advancement of sport in Sri Lanka, making invaluable contributions to the Olympic Movement and the development of future generations of athletes and sports administrators.

Our heartfelt condolences are extended to his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.

May his soul rest in peace!
