【中国文化】| 霜降Frost's Descent

Frost's Descent (Frost Fall) is the 18th solar term and the last one of autumn, usually occurring around October 23 or 24 each year. It marks a sharp temperature drop, the appearance of the first frost, and the transition from autumn to winter. Let us have a look at Fuping County, Weinan City, Shaanxi Province, which is known as the "Hometown of Persimmons" in China. Besides the dazzling sight of red leaves covering the mountains, there are also bright red persimmons spread all over the hillsides.

【你好！中国】| 黑龙江镜泊湖 Jingpo Lake, Heilongjiang Province

Jingpo Lake, located in Mudanjiang, Heilongjiang Province, northeast China, is China's largest alpine lava barrier lake and is as famous as Switzerland's Lake Geneva. Spanning 45 kilometers in length, it has an average depth of 40 meters and reaches up to 60 meters deep.

During winter, temperatures in the region can drop below -20°C, with extreme minimums reaching -35°C. This severe cold forms a spectacular ice waterfall along the surrounding cliffs. At the base lies the 60-meter-deep Black Dragon Pool. Despite the frigid surface environment, underground hot springs keep the water at the bottom above 10°C year-round. Because water temperatures increase with depth, the lake never freezes even amidst the ice and snow, creating a warm aquatic world that attracts brave divers to jump off the icy cliffs.

Lushan Mountain Located in Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province, China. It is a massive upland area made up of 90 continuous peaks, with the highest peak rising 1,474 meters above sea level. Formed over tens of thousands of years through tectonic movements, glacier erosion, and flowing water, the mountain features diverse landscapes, including 22 waterfalls fed by the nearby Yangtze River. Enshrouded in mist for nearly 200 days a year, Lushan enjoys cooler temperatures than the surrounding plains, making it a celebrated summer resort since ancient times. Nestled 1,100 meters high in the mountains is Kuling, a "City in the Clouds" named after the English word "cooling," where century-old villas built by British missionaries continue to welcome summer visitors today.

China Cultural Centre in Sri Lanka Holds Pre-departure Briefing for Sri Lankan Cultural and Tourism Delegation to Zhejiang

On October 9, the China Cultural Centre in Sri Lanka held a pre-departure briefing for the “Sri Lankan Cultural and Tourism Delegation’s Visit of Zhejiang.” All members of the delegation and the Centre’s staff attended the meeting.

A promotional video showcasing Zhejiang’s culture and tourism was screened, accompanied by maps and photo displays. Delegation leader delivered an overview of Zhejiang Province, highlighting its geographical landscape, history and culture, digital economy, technological innovation, and unique tourism resources.

The Changjiang River, China's longest river, originates from the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau and flows eastward for 6,300 kilometers before reaching Yuantuojiao in Jiangsu Province, where it empties into the East China Sea. Along its journey, the river carries immense amounts of sediment that deposit at its mouth, gradually shaping sandbars into expansive, growing beach plains. In the Changjiang River Delta and surrounding Yellow Sea region, abundant rivers deliver essential nutrients alongside sediment, creating fertile coast lands, sand ridges, and extensive coastal wetlands. This vibrant ecosystem serves as a crucial stopover for nearly three million migratory birds annually along the East Asian-Australasian Flyway. Despite rapid economic development in this densely populated zone, preserved coastal wetlands offer an vital, undisturbed habitat for wildlife, making it one of the world's most ecologically rich and dynamically shaped coastlines.

Nestled deep within the Altay Mountains of northwestern Xinjiang, China, Kanas Lake is China's second-largest deep-water lake, reaching maximum depths of up to 190 meters. Encircled by China's largest Siberian taiga forest—nourished by warm, humid Atlantic air currents—the lake's pristine water dynamically shifts in color with the changing seasons, light, and daily temperature fluctuations. Beyond its striking natural scenery, Kanas Lake is renowned for enduring legends of a mysterious "lake monster," with local sightings reported since the late 1980s. Scientists believe these sightings are likely Hucho bleekeri, a species of ferocious freshwater salmon living in the deep waters that can reach lengths of nearly two meters and occasionally break the surface. Today, this blend of stunning landscape, rich biodiversity, and legendary intrigue attracts visitors from around the world.

Bright Moon Illuminates Mountains, Poetic Melodies Express Friendship — 2026 MID-AUTUMN FESTIVAL CULTURAL PERFORMANCES

On September 24, on the eve of the traditional Mid-Autumn Festival, the 2026 “Mid-Autumn in Poetry” featuring cultural performances was held at the New Arts Theater of the University of Colombo. The event was jointly organized by the China Cultural Center in Sri Lanka, the Department of Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism of Zhejiang Province, the Sri Lanka Overseas Chinese Association, and the University of Colombo, and co-hosted by the Zhejiang Performing Arts Group and the Confucius Institute at the University of Colombo.

More than 800 guests attended the event to celebrate the festive occasion, including local and foreign diplomats; friends from various sectors in Sri Lanka; representatives from Confucius Institutes (Classrooms) and Chinese enterprise associations; local Chinese expats; as well as faculty members and students from the University of Colombo.
