Rotary Club of Colombo The Rotary Club of Colombo Chartered in 1929 is the oldest & largest Rotary Club in Sri Lanka. The Club is a 100% PHF Club.

The club meets for lunch on the 1st & 3rd Thursdays of every month, at London Grill Cinnamon Grand,Colombo from 12:15pm to 1:45pm.

Rotary in Action – A Step Forward for Education in Tissamaharama

A new chapter begins for the students of Ranminithenna Kanishta Vidyalaya, with the completion of a classroom building that will provide a brighter, more supportive space for learning.

This meaningful initiative, funded by the Asian Education Friendship Association (AEFA), reflects a shared commitment to strengthening education and uplifting communities. By improving infrastructure, we are not only creating classrooms—but enabling opportunity, confidence, and future potential for young learners in the region.

We must extend our sincere thanks to PP Daya Warnakulasooriya for coordinating this special project. We were also pleased to have President Aruna Fernando, PP Kumudu Warnakulasooriya, PP Rajiv Walpita, PDG Senake Amarasignhe, PP T Someswarnan, Rtn. Anitra Perera, and Rtn. Raja Sivaraman visit the site together with the AEFA team.

This project stands as a testament to what can be achieved through partnership, purpose, and the Rotary spirit of service.

Rotary in Action – Strengthening Education in Tissamaharama

The Rotary Club of Colombo is proud to mark the successful completion and opening of a new classroom building at Sri Rohana Kanishta Vidyalaya, Tissamaharama, on 11th February 2026.

Funded by the Asian Education Friendship Association (AEFA), this project—valued at approximately USD 33,000 (LKR 9.8 million)—was undertaken to address critical infrastructure gaps and provide students with a modern, safe, and conducive learning environment.

This initiative directly supports primary school children, enhancing access to quality education while fostering long-term community development. The new facility is designed to create a lasting impact—empowering students, strengthening educational outcomes, and building a foundation for future growth in the region.

We must extend our sincere thanks to PP Daya Warnakulasooriya for coordinating this special project. The following Rotarians also visited the site along with the AEFA team: President Aruna Fernando, PP Kumudu Warnakulasooriya, PP Rajiv Walpita, PDG Senake Amarasignhe, PP T Someswarnan, Rtn. Anitra Perera, and Rtn. Raja Sivaraman.

Rotary in Action – Supporting Our Forces Families

The Rotary Club of Colombo is pleased to share that a donation of USD 700 (over LKR 200,000) was successfully distributed, made possible through the generosity of one of our valued Sister Clubs.

This contribution was directed towards supporting the families of our armed forces who worked tirelessly during Cyclone Ditwah and were themselves affected, providing essential school and stationery items to ensure continuity in their children’s education during this challenging time.

We extend our sincere appreciation to PP Mohan Rasiah and PP Kumudu Warnakulasooriya for coordinating this initiative and ensuring its successful implementation.

Our heartfelt thanks also go to our Sister Club for their generosity and solidarity. This initiative reflects the true spirit of Rotary—standing together to support those who serve and protect us.

The Rotary Club of Colombo successfully convened its 9th Board Meeting on 16th March 2026 at the Taj Samudra, with participation both in-person and virtually, enabling a truly hybrid engagement of the Board.

The meeting brought together Directors and Board Members to review key governance matters, including ongoing service initiatives, financial updates, strategic planning, and preparations towards the Club’s centenary milestones.

International Services Committee Meeting #5 – Rotary Club of Colombo (2025/26)

The Rotary Club of Colombo successfully held its 5th International Services Committee Meeting on Wednesday, 25th March 2026 at Gregory Hall, Hotel Taj Samudra, followed by fellowship.

The meeting was hosted by PP Nimal Ratnayake, PP Ken Nirmalan, Rtn. Nadika Opatha, Rtn. Andrew Samuel, Rtn. Chandana Aluthgama, and Rtn. Mukesh Advani.

Discussions focused on reviewing key international initiatives and plans for the Rotary year, including reflections on completed events such as UN Day and World Understanding Day, and upcoming engagements such as the RI Convention in Taipei. Updates were also shared on Rotary exchanges, sister club relationships, international scholarships, and Rotary Foundation Peace Fellowships.

The committee further discussed hosting frameworks for future meetings and strengthening global partnerships, reinforcing Rotary’s commitment to international service, collaboration, and cross-border impact.

Community Service Committee Meeting #6 – Rotary Club of Colombo (2025/26)

The Rotary Club of Colombo successfully held its 6th Community Service Committee Meeting on Wednesday, 11th March 2026 at Cyril Rodrigo’s Green Cabin, Bambalapitiya, followed by fellowship.

The meeting was graciously hosted by PP Daya Warnakulasooriya, PP Kumudu Warnakulasooriya, Rtn. Anitra Perera, PP Asmath Iqbal, PDG Pubudu De Zoysa and Rtn. Krish Fernando

On 12th March 2026, we had the pleasure of exchanging club flags with Rtn. Piloo Aga of the Rotary Club of Bombay, India, at a special gathering held at the Courtyard by Marriott.

The Rotary Club of Bombay, one of the largest Rotary clubs globally with a membership of approximately 360 Rotarians, carries a remarkable legacy of service and impact. It was truly an honour to share this moment of Rotary fellowship and international connection.

🌍 World Understanding Day Celebrations | 19 February 2026

The Rotary Club of Colombo celebrated World Understanding Day on Thursday, 19th February 2026 at the Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo, in the distinguished presence of Aziz Memon, Past Rotary Foundation Trustee.

The evening commenced with the meeting being called to order by K. R. Ravindran (PRIP), followed by a warm welcome address by President Rtn. Aruna Fernando.

The gathering was further enriched by the presence of international Rotary leaders including, PP Abas Lavingia – Twin Club Coordinator, Rotary Club of Karachi, PP Junaid Mahmoud – Rotary Club of Lyallpur and PP Dr. C. P. Giri – Rotary Club of Richmond Hill along with members and spouses of RCC.

PP Rajiv Walpita formally introduced the Guest Speaker and highlighted his long-standing association with the Rotary Club of Karachi. In his address, Rtn. Aziz Memon delivered an inspiring message underscoring Rotary’s role in advancing global goodwill, peace, and humanitarian service.

A significant highlight of the evening was the handover of a Letter of Commitment from the Rotary Club of Karachi, symbolising strengthened ties and future collaboration for Ditwah Cyclone Disaster Relief Fund. This was followed by a ceremonial flag exchange between PP Abas Lavingia and President Aruna Fernando — a powerful gesture of international fellowship.

The celebration continued with the cutting of the anniversary cake by PRIP K.R. Ravindran, Past Rotary Foundation Trustee Aziz Memon, and President Aruna Fernando, marking the spirit of unity and shared service.

The evening also witnessed the induction of a new member into the Rotary Club of Colombo, further strengthening the Club’s leadership and service capacity.

The celebrations concluded with fellowship and dinner, reflecting the true essence of World Understanding Day — building bridges across borders through Service Above Self.

Restoring Vision, Transforming Lives | 16 February 2026

On 16th February, the Rotary Club of Chunnakam Heritage successfully distributed spectacles to 50 beneficiaries in the Velanai area, in collaboration with the Velanai Pradeshiya Sabha.

This meaningful initiative was generously sponsored by Global Hand Charity, reflecting the power of international partnership in supporting community wellbeing.

The Club extends sincere appreciation to Rtn. Rejina, Australia Coordinator, and Mr. Christer Paul, Sri Lanka Coordinator, for their dedication in facilitating this project. Strengthening Emergency Care Through Global Rotary Partnership

The Rotary Club of Colombo is pleased to share the successful donation of three Electric Three-Function Beds (Model MG 1022) to the Accident & Emergency Unit of the Colombo North Teaching Hospital.

This initiative was implemented under the Sustainable Sri Lanka Humanitarian Project, made possible through the generous support of Rotary District 3300 (Malaysia), FOMSO, and Rotary District 3220 (Sri Lanka & Maldives). It stands as a powerful example of Rotary’s cross-border collaboration in advancing healthcare infrastructure.

We extend our sincere appreciation to PP Magandran Muthiah of the Rotary Club of Kuala Lumpur DiRaja for mobilising funds in Malaysia, Dr. Inuka Wijegunawardana of CNTH for his coordination and support, and to DG Delvin Pereira and PDG Jerome Rajendram for gracing the ceremony.

These beds represent more than equipment — they symbolise hope, dignity, and Rotary’s shared commitment to healing and service across nations.

Milestone in Cancer Early Detection | 9 February 2026

On 9th February 2026, the Rotary Club of Colombo, together with the National Cancer Control Programme, marked the relocation of Sri Lanka’s main Cancer Early Detection Centre to its new premises at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka.

For over 20 years, this partnership has focused on one mission — saving lives through early detection of breast, cervical, and oral cancers. Nearly one million individuals have been screened to date.

As Sri Lanka’s first Rotary Club, we remain committed to strengthening access to life-saving screening services and reducing cancer mortality nationwide.
