𝐖𝐄𝐀𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐄𝐂𝐀𝐒𝐓 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝟐𝟒 𝐒𝐄𝐏𝐓𝐄𝐌𝐁𝐄𝐑 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔
Issued at 05.30 a.m. on 24 September 2026.

The Deep Depression over the West-central and adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal is moving west-northwestwards and is currently crossing the North Andhra Pradesh and adjoining South Odisha coasts of India. Although this system will not have a direct impact on Sri Lanka, the prevailing rainy conditions in the southwestern part of the island are expected to continue due to the wind flow towards the system.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central and North-western Provinces. Heavy falls above 100 mm are likely at some places in the above areas.

A few showers will occur in North-central province and in Mannar district.

Strong winds of about (40-50) kmph can be expected at times over Western slopes of the Central hills, North-central and North-western provinces and in Trincomalee, Hambantota and Matale Districts.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Spend just 30 minutes every week inspecting the indoor and outdoor areas of your home, workplace, or factory. Clear out potential mosquito breeding grounds, standing water, and discarded items to keep yourself and your loved ones safe from dengue!

The Sri Lanka Red Cross Society (SLRCS), with the support of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), conducted a Lesson Learned Workshop on the simplified Early Action Protocol (sEAP) for Dengue, reflecting on more than a year of implementation across five districts.

The workshop brought together representatives from the National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU) of the Ministry of Health, Regional Directorates of Health Services (RDHS), SLRCS branches, and IFRC, providing a space for stakeholders involved in the implementation to collectively reflect on the experience and identify opportunities to strengthen future action.

Discussions focused on what worked well, key achievements, challenges encountered during implementation, areas that did not work as intended, and practical issues that affected implementation. Participants also shared their experiences from the field, highlighting lessons that can help improve coordination, planning, communication, operational processes and the delivery of early actions.

The workshop also provided an opportunity to identify gaps and areas requiring further attention, while drawing on the insights and experiences of different stakeholders to determine ways forward.

The 3-day workshop on Anticipatory Action Cash and Voucher Assistance (CVA) is currently underway!

Supported by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the training is strengthening our teams’ knowledge and skills to improve and scale up the delivery of humanitarian assistance.

Experts and regional facilitators are bringing valuable technical expertise, global perspectives and real-world case studies to the sessions, enabling our teams to better support vulnerable communities.
