THE RAINWATER HARVESTING PROJECT AT S. THOMAS' PREPARATORY SCHOOL
In an era where environmental sustainability is paramount, S. Thomas' Preparatory School has taken a commendable step towards water conservation through its Rainwater Harvesting Project. The Rainwater Harvesting project which was spearheaded by Mr. Upul Navarathne, the Staff Advisor, Mr. Jabeeshan Baskaran, The Project Coordinator, and supported by the collective efforts of the board of 2023 and 2024, along with the invaluable contributions of The Chairman of The Perstaff Holdings (PVT) Ltd, Mr. Anuradha Perera and most importantly the utmost good faith and support of our dear headmaster of our esteemed school, Rev. Nihal Fernando. This initiative exemplifies the school's commitment to nurturing eco-conscious students and contributing to the global fight against water scarcity by reusing retreating and sustaining the environment.
Catchment Area (Chapel roof)
Total Catchment Area = 110 sq. m
Storage Capacity = 8000 Litres (8 cubic meters)
Stored rainwater, could then be used for various non-potable purposes such as gardening, flushing toilets, and cleaning, thereby reducing the reliance on the National Water Supply Board.
