AUSTRALIAN HIGH COMMISSIONER’S VISIT TO MAG - 12 May 2026
MAG had the pleasure of hosting the Australian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Matthew Duckworth, along with First Secretary Xin Shi, Senior Research Officer Sylvester Worthington, and Program Officer Nathali Fernando, at our demining site in Mundru Murippu - Mullaitivu District, the most heavily contaminated district in Sri Lanka.
The support provided by the Government of Australia has significantly contributed to MAG’s efforts to clear contaminated land and return safe land to civilians living in war-affected areas of Sri Lanka. This partnership continues to help restore safety, livelihoods, and hope to communities rebuilding their lives after decades of conflict.
Sri Lanka is steadily progressing towards clearing all remaining landmines and explosive remnants of war. These indiscriminate weapons continue to threaten the safety of civilians and hinder resettlement and development in affected areas of the country.
To date, MAG has cleared more than 103.18 square kilometres of land and removed 116,581 explosive ordnances from contaminated areas. However, approximately 21.38 square kilometres of land still remain to be cleared in order to achieve a “Landmine-Free Sri Lanka.”
MAG would like to sincerely thank the Government of Australia and the Australian High Commission in Sri Lanka for their continued support of our humanitarian mine action work. Their contribution continues to save lives and help build a safer future for communities across Sri Lanka.

MAG அமைப்பிற்கு இலங்கைக்கான ஆஸ்திரேலிய உயர்ஸ்தானிகர் Matthew Duckworth அவர்களையும், முதல் செயலாளர் Xin Shi, மூத்த ஆய்வு அதிகாரி Sylvester Worthington, மற்றும் திட்ட அதிகாரி Nathali Fernando ஆகியோரையும் முல்லைத்தீவு மாவட்டத்தின் முண்டுரு முரிப்பு பகுதியில் அமைந்துள்ள எங்களது கண்ணிவெடி அகற்றும் பணித்தளத்தில் வரவேற்கும் வாய்ப்பு கிடைத்தது. முல்லைத்தீவு மாவட்டம் இலங்கையில் மிகவும் அதிகளவில் கண்ணிவெடிகள் மற்றும் வெடிபொருட்களால் பாதிக்கப்பட்ட மாவட்டமாகும்.
ஆஸ்திரேலிய அரசாங்கம் வழங்கி வரும் ஆதரவு, மாசடைந்த நிலங்களை சுத்திகரித்து அவற்றை பாதுகாப்பான நிலங்களாக மாற்றி, போரால் பாதிக்கப்பட்ட பகுதிகளில் வாழும் பொதுமக்களிடம் மீண்டும் ஒப்படைக்கும் MAG அமைப்பின் மனிதாபிமான பணிகளுக்கு பெரிதும் துணைபுரிந்துள்ளது. இந்த கூட்டாண்மை, பல ஆண்டுகால மோதல்களுக்குப் பின்னர் தங்கள் வாழ்க்கையை மீண்டும் கட்டியெழுப்பும் சமூகங்களுக்கு பாதுகாப்பையும் நம்பிக்கையையும் வாழ்வாதாரத்தையும் மீட்டுத்தருகிறது.
இதுவரை MAG, 103.18 சதுர கிலோமீட்டர் பரப்பளவிலான நிலங்களை சுத்திகரித்து, மாசடைந்த பகுதிகளில் இருந்து 116,581 வெடிபொருட்களை அகற்றியுள்ளது. இருப்பினும், “கண்ணிவெடி இல்லா இலங்கை” என்ற இலக்கை அடைய இன்னும் சுமார் 21.38 சதுர கிலோமீட்டர் நிலப்பரப்பு சுத்திகரிக்கப்பட வேண்டியுள்ளது.
மனிதாபிமான கண்ணிவெடி அகற்றும் பணிகளுக்காக தொடர்ந்து ஆதரவு வழங்கி வரும் ஆஸ்திரேலிய அரசாங்கத்திற்கும் இலங்கையிலுள்ள ஆஸ்திரேலிய உயர்ஸ்தானிகரகத்திற்கும் MAG தனது மனமார்ந்த நன்றியைத் தெரிவித்துக்கொள்கிறது. அவர்களின் பங்களிப்பு உயிர்களை பாதுகாத்து, இலங்கையின் சமூகங்களுக்கு பாதுகாப்பான எதிர்காலத்தை உருவாக்க உதவி செய்து வருகிறது.
