Sri Lanka Unites

Sri Lanka Unites Youth Movement for Hope and Reconciliation For three decades these divisions have been deepened by armed conflict and opportunisitc political wrangling.

“We will not let the hatred of the past control the present and destroy our future”

Sri Lanka has long been divided along ethnic lines. With the conclusion of the brutal civil war, a new era has dawned upon us. Sri Lanka has been granted a unique and unmissable opportunity to learn from past mistakes, and find durable solutions for the future. The doors for reconcilitation and reconstruction have

now been opened. And it is time for the youth of this country to step through these doors with the conviction that the best is yet to come. In this critical period of transition, we have the opportunity to replace a culture of divisiveness and conflict and be a voice for change; for HOPE and RECONCILIATION. The Sri Lanka Unites movement represents this choice of Sri Lanka's youth, from all ethnic and religious groups - to rise up and provide a new voice. Vision:

To unite the youth of Sri Lanka from all ethnic and religious groups in a movement which provides hope and facilitates reconciliation in Sri Lanka, paving the way for a peaceful and prosperous Sri Lanka for future generations. To celebrate and value the diversity of Sri Lanka’s different ethnic and religious heritages, each of which enrich our lives as common citizens of Sri Lanka. To see the combined strength of all young people in our diverse nation used to secure peace and prosperity. To create a united Sri Lanka where young people are intentional about working together with members of different ethnicities, religions, classes and castes for the sustainable development of our beautiful nation. To transform the youth of Sri Lanka into people who have hope for their future and their country; who are proactive in working for the positive development of mother Lanka. Action:

Sri Lanka Unites will continuously take a multi-pronged approach to further the cause of reconciliation. We will instill reconciliation through our regional youth leaders. We believe that reconciliation comes not from the cosiness of a capital, but from the grassroots of a nation. We will bring to you success stories from across the country of people who are pioneering positive changes to drive our country forward. Meanwhile, remaining ever conscious of the current needs in the North. We will continue to actively engage in the humanitarian efforts there.

When we say the Kids Leadership Conference changes lives, we mean it. Meet another one of our incredible mentors for KLC 2026, joining us all the way from Nuwara Eliya!

Back in 2024, she experienced KLC for the very first time as a young participant. The experience impacted her so deeply that she left with a quiet dream: to one day return as a volunteer and mentor to guide others. Today, that dream officially becomes a reality. 🚀

Her story is living proof of what it means to LEARN, GROW, and LEAD.

✨ From KLC Participant to KLC Mentor! ✨

There is no greater reward than seeing our youth grow into leaders who turn around and guide the next generation. Meet one of our incredible volunteers from Batticaloa for the upcoming Kids Leadership Conference 2026! 🚀

Her journey with us has been a true evolution of leadership. She first joined our movement as a student in our very first cohorts, went on to experience the magic of KLC as a young participant, and is now stepping up as a Mentor to invest right back into the children joining us this year.

LEARN | GROW | LEAD is not just a theme—it’s a journey our alumni live out every single day across Sri Lanka.

World Day Against Child Labour 2026

Today, we recognize both the progress made and the challenges that remain in eliminating child labour. Globally, the number of children engaged in child labour has declined from 246 million in 2000 to 138 million today. Yet, millions of children are still deprived of their right to education, safety, and equal opportunities.

In Sri Lanka, economic hardship, rural poverty, educational barriers, climate-related disasters, and the lasting impacts of recent crises continue to place vulnerable children at risk. Most working children live in rural communities, with agriculture remaining the sector most affected by child labour.

At Sri Lanka Unites (SLU), we believe ending child labour requires collective action, inclusive partnerships, and meaningful dialogue. As a bridge and platform for children and youth to voice their concerns, aspirations, and ideas, we remain committed to empowering young people, strengthening communities, and promoting collaboration among families, schools, civil society, government institutions, and the private sector.

Every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and reach their full potential. Together, let us build a future where no child is forced to sacrifice their education, safety, or dreams for survival.

The journey to Kids Leadership Conference 2026 begins!

Date: 27th , 28th and 29th of June 2026

For the 4th year, Sri Lanka Unites, in collaboration with Kindernothilfe (KNH), proudly brings together children from diverse communities across Sri Lanka.

Together, they learn, connect beyond differences, and grow into compassionate young leaders.

At KLC, we believe reconciliation is not only about the past but, it is about how the next generation learns to understand, trust, and lead with together in the future. Here, children build shared experiences that shape how they relate to difference long before it becomes division.

This year’s theme: Learn. Grow. Lead.

Today’s children are tomorrow’s youth and the leaders who will shape a more connected and hopeful Sri Lanka.

More than a conference, KLC is an investment in rebuilding Sri Lanka’s future through meaningful relationships and shared experiences.

Winning isn’t everything—but unity is. 🌊🤝

Our Batticaloa RC team recently turned Katankudy Beach into a playground for peace! While the day was filled with vibrant games and laughter, the real magic happened in the "in-between" moments.

To create a safe, joyful space where children from diverse communities could build confidence and realize that teamwork matters more than a scoreboard. Watching these young leaders form meaningful friendships across different backgrounds is exactly why we do what we do.

In a world that often prioritizes competition, how can we teach the next generation that shared joy is the ultimate victory? 👇

A Nation United in Celebration: New Year 2026

Over the past weeks, the spirit of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year echoed through every Sri Lanka Unites Reconciliation Center across the island.

From traditional games to shared meals, our centers transformed into vibrant hubs of unity. While each region brought its own local flavor, the heart was the same: celebrating our shared heritage as one community. Our goal was to move beyond tradition to build lasting bridges of friendship and respect.
