Event Highlights | Post-Congress Workshop – SLAGM & Pre-Congress Workshop 4 – SLMA

The Sri Lankan Association of Geriatric Medicine (SLAGM) in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Medical Association (SLMA) successfully conducted the Post-Congress Workshop – SLAGM / Pre-Congress Workshop 4 – SLMA on “Clinical Pearls in Geriatrics: Practical Insights for Clinicians” on 17th June 2026 at the SLMA Lionel Memorial Auditorium.

The academic session focused on enhancing knowledge and practical skills in geriatric care through interactive discussions and expert-led presentations. The programme covered important areas including deprescribing in older patients, falls and fracture prevention, urinary incontinence management, late-life mental health, dementia care, and compassionate geriatric palliative and end-of-life care.

We sincerely appreciate the contributions of all distinguished resource persons, organizers, and participants who made this workshop a valuable learning experience for clinicians involved in elderly care.

Pre-Congress Workshop 2

The Sri Lanka Medical Association (SLMA) in collaboration with the Sri Lanka College of Pulmonologists successfully conducted Pre-Congress Workshop 2 – “Sleep Across the Lifespan: A Multidisciplinary, Practical Approach for General Practice” on 27th May 2026 at the SLMA Auditorium.

The workshop brought together healthcare professionals from multiple specialties to explore the importance of sleep health, recognition of sleep disorders, and practical approaches for effective management in clinical practice.

The programme featured insightful sessions covering sleep disorders in primary care, sleep apnoea management, ENT aspects, complex clinical cases, paediatric sleep concerns, hypersomnolence disorders, insomnia management, and the relationship between nutrition and sleep health.

We extend our sincere appreciation to all resource persons, participants, and organizers for contributing to the success of this valuable academic event.

Highlights from the Hands-on Workshop on “Artificial Intelligence for Clinicians”

The Sri Lanka Medical Association (SLMA) Pre-Congress Workshop on Artificial Intelligence for Clinicians was successfully conducted on 12th June 2026 at the Skill Lab, CODL, Faculty of Science, University of Colombo.

The workshop brought together medical professionals and medical students for an engaging learning experience on the practical applications of Artificial Intelligence in healthcare.

Participants explored key areas including:
🔹 AI terminology and fundamentals
🔹 Large Language Models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT
🔹 AI applications in medical education
🔹 AI in research
🔹 AI applications in clinical medicine

The session was conducted by the Expert Committee on Artificial Intelligence in Medicine of the Sri Lanka Medical Association, providing valuable insights into the evolving role of AI in modern healthcare.
