It felt like everything we worked for was gone in a single night.
Kirushan Shiyamala - Seaweed farmer, Kilinochchi.

When Cyclone Ditwah struck northern Sri Lanka, many farming families lost crops, production assets and income overnight. Seaweed farms were destroyed, gherkin fields flooded, and fish stocks wiped out.

With timely support including essential agriculture inputs, planting materials and production assets, close to 2500 farmers have restarted production and regained hope. Today, fields are productive again, incomes are recovering, and communities are building resilience to face future climate shocks.

Skills change lives. 🌱
In Badulla, Sri Lank, over 50 young people from the Malaiyaha Tamil community are shaping their future through technical and vocational training in construction, solar energy, graphic design and more.

Many come from families whose livelihoods have long depended on work in tea plantations. Through developing in-demand skills, their expanding pathways to decent work and alternative livelihood opportunities beyond the plantation sector, achieve better social outcomes, and more importantly gaining confidence to determine their own paths in life.
