🏆 A Proud Moment for the Rotary Club of Colombo Port City 🏆

We are delighted to celebrate a truly special achievement by our President-Elect, Rtn. Mahen Karayawasam.

Rtn. Mahen, who is also a highly respected Lion in the Lions movement, has been honoured with the prestigious Lion’s District Governor’s Special Appreciation Award for Extraordinary Commitment and Service, together with the District Lifetime Award, in recognition of his outstanding contribution and lifelong dedication to service.

What makes this recognition even more meaningful is that Mahen was unable to attend the awards ceremony in person, as he was on the road engaged in Rotary service. That moment itself reflects the very spirit of his leadership — commitment, humility, passion, and selfless service.

His dedication continues to inspire and strengthen the Rotary Club of Colombo Port City, and this award stands as a powerful testament to the values he lives by every day.

🌏✨ Awarelogue History Hub✨🌏

The Rotary Colombo Port City was proud to support a very special learning experience conducted by the Awarelogue Asian Institute for the Interact Club of the School for the Visually Impaired, Ratmalana.
The Ceylon School for the Deaf & Blind

Held on Tuesday, 19 May 2026, this unique Awarelogue History Hub session brought history to life through current affairs, helping young minds explore the world in an engaging, inclusive, and meaningful way.

The session included:

🔹 Interactive explanations on history and global affairs
🔹 Audio-based learning experiences
🔹 Tactile exploration activities
🔹 Taste-based discovery moments
🔹 Open sharing and discussion

A dedicated team from the Awarelogue Asian Institute conducted the programme for a group of 20–25 students, creating a memorable experience filled with curiosity, imagination, and learning.

💙 We are especially proud that the Interact Club of the School for the Visually Impaired is part of the wider Rotary Club of Colombo Port City family.

This project reflects the true spirit of Rotary — opening doors, creating opportunities, and empowering every child to explore the world beyond limits.

🌟 Celebrating Six Months of Service, Leadership & Inclusion 🌟

The Interact Club of the School for the Blind, Ratmalana proudly reflects on an inspiring first half of the year. As the world's first Interact Club for visually impaired students, we have continued to prove that vision is not limited by sight, but driven by purpose and determination.

✨ Highlights from the past six months:
✅ Successful Charter Installation Ceremony
✅ Community service projects benefiting children, elders, and visually impaired individuals
✅ Donation of 150 white canes and Braille learning tools
✅ Donation of 150 nutrition packs to children at Apeksha Cancer Hospital
✅ Christmas outreach program for children in need
✅ Environmental initiatives including tree planting and our Green Garden Project
✅ International Pen Pal Project promoting global friendship and cultural exchange
✅ Active participation in district and inter-club activities

These achievements were made possible through the dedication of our members, teachers, parents, Rotary Colombo Port City, Rotary District 3220, and all our supporters.

Together, we continue to empower visually impaired students through leadership, service, fellowship, and international understanding.

A memorable Charter Night for the Rotary Club of Colombo Port City!

On 22nd May 2026, at the Golf Club, the Rotary Colombo Port City family came together to celebrate a very special milestone in the club’s journey.

Under the leadership of President Puvendran Gajendra, the evening was graced by fellow Rotarians, well-wishers, district officials, Past District Governors, and friends from many other Rotary clubs.

In just five years, the club has grown from strength to strength — now standing proudly as the fourth largest club in the district. This year has been another remarkable one, with the club being recognized as one of the most awarded clubs at the Rotary District 3220 Awards Night, securing over 24 prestigious awards and certificates.

It was a beautiful evening of fellowship, gratitude, celebration, and reflection on how far the club has come in such a short time.

Congratulations to President Puvendran Gajendra and the entire Rotary Club of Colombo Port City family for an exceptional year of service, growth, and impact.

Here’s to many more years of doing good in the world.

This is an important milestone, not only for the students of Hindu College, but also for our club as we continue to strengthen youth leadership, service, fellowship and community engagement through Interact.

An unforgettable moment for the Rotary Colombo Port City Family.

At the Installation Ceremony of District Governor Elect Kumar Sundararaj, the of the took centre stage in a way that touched every heart in the room.
The students performed a beautifully coordinated dance with confidence, discipline, and grace, despite their visual impairment and blindness. Their performance was flawless, powerful, and deeply moving.

Even more remarkably, the Vice President of the Interact Club of the School for the Blind delivered the keynote address of the evening. For over 10 minutes, she spoke with clarity, courage, and conviction, highlighting the importance of sight, inclusion, opportunity, and the deeper meaning behind the sight-focused projects that will be championed during DGE Kumar’s year.

In an event where a keynote speaker is usually an external guest or senior personality, it was truly inspiring to see a young Interactor from the School for the Blind being given that platform, and using it with such perfection.

This Interact Club, chartered during the Rotary year 2024/25, spearheaded by Rtn Sulo is the first Interact Club for blind children and remains the only Interact Club of its kind in the world.

A proud moment for Sri Lanka. A proud moment for Rotary District 3220.

We are grateful that these incredible students were given the opportunity to showcase their talent, share their voice, and remind us all that true service is not only about helping people, but also about creating platforms where they can lead, inspire, and shine.

The two standing ovations they received said everything.

As District Governor Kumar begins a Rotary year with sight and vision at its heart, we are proud that the Interact Club of the School for the Blind could play such a meaningful role in setting the tone for the year ahead.

This is what Rotary is about: giving opportunity, building confidence, creating inclusion, and allowing every individual to rise beyond limitations.

Held at Horizon Campus with Hayleys Advantis and District Interact 3220, bringing together around 900 Interact leaders for mental wellbeing, anxiety management, leadership, career guidance and corporate exposure.

🤰 Maternal & Child Health Nutrition Pack Donation
The club’s first service project of the year, supporting 100 pregnant mothers with nutritional and dry ration packs during Rotary’s Maternal and Child Health Month.

🤝 Sister Club Agreement with Rotary Club of Chennai Silk City
A cross-border agreement signed in Chennai by President Rtn. Puvendran Gajendra to strengthen Sri Lanka–India Rotary friendship, fellowship and future collaboration.

👁️ Sight Restoration: Vavuniya General Hospital
Supported 100 cataract surgeries at Vavuniya General Hospital, helping deserving patients regain sight, dignity and independence.

🚲 Hope on Wheels
Distributed 32 bicycles donated by Rotary District 2982, India, to selected beneficiaries across Sri Lanka, supporting mobility, livelihoods, women’s independence and micro-SME activity.

🌿 Clean Up Sri Lanka Day: Rotary for Environment
Participated in the district-wide clean-up initiative by collecting plastic and other waste in Colombo and handing it over to the Colombo Municipal Council for recycling and proper disposal.

👁️ Sight Restoration: Nuwara Eliya Hospital
Supported another 100 cataract surgeries, mainly for plantation workers. Combined with Vavuniya, the Sight Restoration project helped 200 patients with a total value of LKR 1.5 million.

Hosted at City of Dreams, Cinnamon Life, with 250+ guests, raising LKR 5 million for Rotary for Little Hearts, now being taken forward through a Global Grant pathway.

Funded by Fairfax Financial Holdings, Canada, with Fairfirst Insurance as local partner, supporting 1,300 students across 10 schools in North Central and Uva Provinces. Funding: USD 36,000, with supplies worth over LKR 14 million.

🌟 Dare to Dream: CMA Youth Camp 2026
A fully residential youth leadership camp at MAS Athena, Thulhiriya, with Coach Masters Academy and Smart Quest, supporting around 120 young adults through coaching, resilience, career clarity, communication and leadership development. Value: LKR 4.5 million.
