"Results will always speak for it self"

When we stand up for System Change, it is natural to face obstacles, criticism, and resistance from different directions. Many said it could not be done. Others doubted the plans and capabilities of our industrialists.

"Results will always speak for it self"

What we are witnessing today is the outcome of a collective national effort. During the first four months of 2026 (January - April), Sri Lanka’s coconut export sector achieved an unprecedented milestone.

Some key achievements of the coconut export sector:

🟢 21.38% overall growth - Coconut exports recorded a strong increase compared to the same period last year.

🟢 US$ 406.28 million in export earnings - Our entrepreneurs have successfully generated much-needed foreign exchange for the country.

🟢 A value-addition revolution - Coconut shell based products recorded a remarkable 55.85% growth, while activated carbon exports grew by 49.38%, providing clear evidence that we are moving in the right direction.

The Coconut Cultivation Board is moving towards a long term target of producing 4 billion coconuts annually through the development of new cultivation lands and improvements in productivity.

Until that supply target is achieved, we can continue progressing towards the US$ 2.5 billion export target by changing consumption patterns and implementing the necessary reforms to facilitate the import of raw materials for re-export industries.

Let us turn every challenge into an opportunity!

On World Metrology Day 2026, UNIDO joins the global community in celebrating the theme: “Metrology: Building Trust in Policy Making.”
Measurement might not make headlines, but in Sri Lanka it is quietly transforming what our agri-food exporters can achieve and what our regulators can enforce. Proud of what the European Union in Sri Lanka and the Maldives funded BESPA-FOOD project has built alongside Measurement Units, Standards & Services Department (MUSSD) and our partners.
