Two rescue inflatable boats were handed over to the Disaster Management Centre (DMC Srilanka), with disaster assessment drones for the National Building Research Institute - NBRI to follow, supporting Sri Lanka's emergency response efforts.

๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บThe Australian Government through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) provided these equipment with the procurement and logistical support of UNOPS.

At the hand over ceremony, Hon. Tim Watts MP, Australia's Special Envoy for Indian Ocean Affairs, reaffirmed Australia's commitment to locally led disaster preparedness and regional resilience in the Indian Ocean, noting that: "The Australian-funded rescue boats and disaster assessment drones will help strengthen Sri Lanka's disaster preparedness and emergency response capability."

Skills for a Shared Future .

At UNOPS, we believe that empowering young people with the skills they need will help drive sustainable change and create meaningful impact today, and in the future.

Earlier this month through our support to Sri Lanka Model United Nations we facilitated an interactive workshop on climate-resilient infrastructure for young people. Our Climate Resilient Infrastructure team including resources from Australia Assists programme guided the young people through a hands-on village planning exercise, exploring innovative, resilient solutions for climate-vulnerable communities.

Three agencies. One shared mission. ๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿค
For nearly a month, UNOPS, IOM Sri Lanka and Maldives and UN-Habitat Sri Lanka have been working hand-in-hand to provide integrated, technical support to the National Building Research Institute - NBRI

Funded by the Australian High Commission, Sri Lanka ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ, under this initiative we place local communities right at the core of our efforts.

Together, we are strengthening the most vulnerable locations across Sri Lanka to build long-term climate resilience. ๐Ÿ—๏ธ๐ŸŒฟ

The ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ Australian High Commission, Sri Lanka and the ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ณUnited Nations in ๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡ฐSri Lanka continue to support the nationโ€™s journey towards climate resilience.

A strategic project has been launched to strengthen resilience, recovery, and sustainable infrastructure development in Sri Lankaโ€™s hill country following Cyclone Ditwah. The initiative strengthens the capacity of the National Building Research Institute (NBRI) to support recovery and promote resilient infrastructure development through a holistic approach.

Communities are at the heart of this initiative, bridging local knowledge and needs with technical expertise and tools to support long term and practical solutions.

Together, IOM, UN-Habitat, and UNOPS are working alongside national partners to help build a stronger and more climate-resilient Sri Lanka.

Over the coming weeks, hear from the partners driving this initiative and learn how collaboration is helping build resilience in Sri Lanka's hill country
