Hear from some of the experts working on the project to support Sri Lanka’s recovery and strengthen long-term climate resilience, bringing together technical expertise, local knowledge and community voices.

🌿 A milestone for sustainable development in South Asia!

The Secretariat of the South Asia Co-operative Environment Programme(SACEP) Building has achieved LEED Gold Certification, recognising its high standards in sustainability, energy and water efficiency, environmental responsibility, and occupant wellbeing.

The building incorporates a range of sustainable solutions, including renewable energy, energy monitoring, water-saving measures, improved indoor air quality and sustainable site development.

Funded by the World Bank Sri Lanka and implemented by UNOPS, the project supports SACEP in delivering a modern, efficient and environmentally responsible headquarters for the region.

UNOPS is proud to have contributed to the successful completion of the SACEP-HQ building by leading and supporting its planning, design, procurement, construction, and Defects Notification Period (DNP) management and overall project management.

Effective humanitarian action depends on strong partnerships.

Following Tropical Cyclone Ditwah late last year, Rico (left) and Upeshika (right) were deployed to UNOPS Sri Lanka as a Structural Engineer and Senior Infrastructure Adviser to support Sri Lanka's recovery efforts.

Working alongside the Government of Sri Lanka, they are helping to build safer homes and strengthen communities' resilience to climate change.

This World Humanitarian Day, we recognise humanitarians working with partners to meet critical needs and support communities affected by disasters.

This World Humanitarian Day, UN flags in Sri Lanka fly at half-mast in honour of the humanitarians who never made it home.

They walk into some of the most dangerous places when others are trying to leave: delivering food, medicine and shelter for the displaced.

In the last three years, more than 1,000 aid workers have been killed, despite repeated promises to protect them.

Today we remember them as we call on states to uphold international humanitarian law and use every tool they have to protect humanitarians everywhere.

To celebrate, we invited both our young colleagues and our young-at-heart colleagues to take part in this playful video.

While the words we use, the gestures we make, and the way we communicate may have changed over the years, one thing remains the same: we are all united by one mission to build better lives, deliver practicle solutions for the people and communities we serve.

Here's to celebrating different perspectives, learning from one another, and recognizing that every generation has something valuable to contribute.

Two rescue inflatable boats were handed over to the Disaster Management Centre (DMC Srilanka), with disaster assessment drones for the National Building Research Institute - NBRI to follow, supporting Sri Lanka's emergency response efforts.

🇦🇺The Australian Government through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) provided these equipment with the procurement and logistical support of UNOPS.

At the hand over ceremony, Hon. Tim Watts MP, Australia's Special Envoy for Indian Ocean Affairs, reaffirmed Australia's commitment to locally led disaster preparedness and regional resilience in the Indian Ocean, noting that: "The Australian-funded rescue boats and disaster assessment drones will help strengthen Sri Lanka's disaster preparedness and emergency response capability."

Skills for a Shared Future .

At UNOPS, we believe that empowering young people with the skills they need will help drive sustainable change and create meaningful impact today, and in the future.

Earlier this month through our support to Sri Lanka Model United Nations we facilitated an interactive workshop on climate-resilient infrastructure for young people. Our Climate Resilient Infrastructure team including resources from Australia Assists programme guided the young people through a hands-on village planning exercise, exploring innovative, resilient solutions for climate-vulnerable communities.
