Two rescue inflatable boats were handed over to the Disaster Management Centre (DMC Srilanka), with disaster assessment drones for the National Building Research Institute - NBRI to follow, supporting Sri Lanka's emergency response efforts.
๐ฆ๐บThe Australian Government through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) provided these equipment with the procurement and logistical support of UNOPS.
At the hand over ceremony, Hon. Tim Watts MP, Australia's Special Envoy for Indian Ocean Affairs, reaffirmed Australia's commitment to locally led disaster preparedness and regional resilience in the Indian Ocean, noting that: "The Australian-funded rescue boats and disaster assessment drones will help strengthen Sri Lanka's disaster preparedness and emergency response capability."
