`*🇱🇰 YES We Can! - Together We Rebuild 🤝`
The *Youth Empowerment Society (YES) Disaster Preparedness and Response* initiative is urgently mobilized to tackle the humanitarian crisis in Sri Lanka caused by *Cyclone Ditwah*, which has triggered devastating floods and landslides across the nation.
*🚨 Crisis & Response Overview*
Cyclone Ditwah has severely impacted nearly *1 million people*, leading to the displacement of over *200,000* into temporary shelters. With a tragic death toll exceeding *130*, a national *State of Emergency* remains in effect.
YES youth teams are utilizing strong local networks to ensure critical aid reaches the most vulnerable groups in temporary shelters and isolated, flood-affected areas that are difficult to access.
*🙏 Critical Immediate Needs (Relief Phase)*
Our focus is on delivering *life-saving essentials* and supporting the immediate well-being of displaced families who have lost their homes and belongings:
* *Dry Ration Packs:* Providing essential food supplies for immediate nutrition.
* *Medical Support:* Sourcing essential *medicines*, *first aid kits*, and organizing vital *blood donation drives*.
* *Clean Clothing:* Sustaining supplies through ongoing clothing donation drives.
* *Hygiene & Sanitation:* Providing essential items including soap, toiletries, and crucially, *menstrual products*.
* *Cleaning Supplies:* Distributing disinfectant, bleach, and other supplies for sanitizing flood-damaged shelters and communal areas.
* *Non-Food Items (NFIs):* Supplying essentials like *water purification tablets*, *blankets*, and *bedding*.
* *📚 Stationary Drive:* Collecting and distributing *School supplies* (notebooks, pens, geometry sets, etc.) to ensure displaced children can continue their education with minimal disruption.
*✨ Recovery Vision: The Rebuilding Fund*
Beyond immediate life-saving relief, YES is launching the *Rebuilding Fund* to focus on long-term recovery and community resilience. This fund will directly support:
* *Home Reconstruction:* Assisting families with materials and labor to rebuild damaged and lost residences.
* *Infrastructure Repair:* Contributing to the repair and restoration of critical community infrastructure.
*💰 Transparency in Aid Delivery*
To ensure every donation provides maximum impact, our operational model includes transparent accounting for the necessary costs of delivery and logistics, which are crucial for getting aid to those in need:
* *Transportation Charges* cover the costs of getting aid from collection points to distribution sites. This includes *fuel*, *vehicle rental*, and *driver costs*, especially for complex *last-mile delivery* into hard-to-reach, flood-affected areas.
* *Packing & Handling* accounts for the expenses related to preparing the aid for safe and efficient distribution. This involves the costs for *packaging materials*, *labeling*, *warehousing*, and the *labor* required to assemble standardized, safe aid kits (like the Dry Ration Packs).
* *Other Support Charges* ensure the smooth and effective operation of the entire response. These are essential operational overheads, including costs for *communications* (critical when infrastructure is damaged), *monitoring* (to track aid distribution), and a necessary *contingency fund* to address unforeseen challenges and price increases, thereby ensuring efficient and effective aid flow.
Join YES in bridging crisis to recovery— *donate or volunteer today* to help Sri Lanka rebuild stronger.
