Following RSSL’s Emergency Communication operation during Cyclone Ditwah, where our volunteer operators demonstrated the critical role of amateur radio when all conventional systems failed, we are proud to share that a Government-to-Government grant agreement between the Embassy of Japan in Sri Lanka and TRCSL is now moving toward conclusion.

Since December 2025, RSSL has been working closely with TRCSL and the Embassy of Japan as the technical stakeholder behind this grant application - conducting evaluations, proposing technical specifications, and preparing cost analyses. We pushed hard, every step of the way, solely in the interest of strengthening Sri Lanka’s national communication resilience.

We are humbled and proud to see this effort bear fruit.

A heartfelt thank you to our members whose dedication during Cyclone Ditwah helped demonstrate what amateur radio can do for this country, and to TRCSL and the Embassy of Japan for their confidence in us.

More updates to follow.

RSSL concludes a landmark 72nd AGM

A record turnout, a historic election, and a promising new chapter for the Radio Society of Sri Lanka.

The 72nd Annual General Meeting of the Radio Society of Sri Lanka (RSSL) was held on Sunday, 22nd March 2026, at the Otter Aquatic Club, Colombo 7 – and by every measure, it was a resounding success. The meeting saw a full house and record participation, reflecting the growing momentum within the amateur radio community in Sri Lanka.

Among the highlights of the AGM was the election of new office bearers for the term 2026/27. In a historic moment β€” only the second in RSSL’s history β€” a Young Lady (YL) operator was elected as President. Ms. Prarthana Liyanage (4S7PL) was unanimously elected to lead the society, and we are confident she will carry RSSL to even greater heights.

Outgoing President Tharanga Premathilake (4S6TMP) expressed heartfelt thanks to members and supporters across the world. In recognition of his service to the society, Tharanga was granted Honorary Life Membership upon stepping down β€” a well-deserved tribute to his contributions.

The formal proceedings were followed by a warm fellowship and networking session, bringing members together in the true spirit of amateur radio.

β€œI promise to give my very best to RSSL, and I know I cannot do this alone. Let us unite with purpose and passion to lift RSSL to even greater heights.”

– Prarthana 4S7PL, President, RSSL (2026/27)

Let’s congratulate the incoming council and wish them every success. The RSSL family looks forward to an exciting and productive term ahead.
