On World Manta Day 2025, Weekend Mawbima journalist Miss Savani Sheshadi held a timely discussion with environmental law expert Dr. Jagath Gunawardana and our co-founder, Buddhi Maheshika Pathirana. The conversation focused on raising public awareness about the urgent need to safeguard manta rays and their close relatives. Reaching a wide readership across Sri Lanka, the discussion highlighted both the pressing challenges and the future directions for conservation. This initiative highlights the growing importance of strengthening protection measures to ensure the survival of these vital species.

This year’s theme, The Power of Protection, highlights the urgent need for stronger safeguards.
