About Freda Corea Awards 2023
The main objective of the Freda Corea Awards is the empowerment of women. It is no secret that women play a major role not only in the development effort of the country but also in uplifting the quality of life and social standing of their families. However, the challenges, obstacles, and problems they have to face in achieving success have to be addressed and resolv
ed in order to ensure the large-scale empowerment of women and their families. The Freda Corea Awards 2023 is an initiative to bring about the emancipation and empowerment of low to middle-income women whose stories of success will be an inspiration to other women to follow suit and thereby harness their participation in the economic development process. Freda Corea Awards was conceptualized as a competition for writers whose task would be to identify such inspirational women, unravel how they overcame the challenges problems and obstacles in their journey towards success write their stories, and submit them to the competition. Handsome cash rewards await the winning stories from each province and the writers of these stories. The project is a combination of a communication and research exercise. The communications exercise will take the form of a media campaign to encourage writers to enter the competition. The research which will be an outcome of the story-writing will be used to formulate a policy paper to be sent to policymakers to help in future policy formulation. The communications component will be a media exercise to reach low and middle-income women from all 9 provinces and to publicize the stories of the winning candidates as an incentive for like-minded women to join the development process.
