Protecting Precious Beginnings! π
At our center, our mission is simple yet crucial: protect and ensure that marine turtleβs eggs that are laid on sri lankan beaches can hatch. π’ Therefore, we have built a safe place for them to thrive by using sturdy metal fences and secure enclosures that keep predators like dogs, lizards, and poachers at bay.
Once collected, each egg is carefully buried between 50 and 70 centimeters of depth; determining the fate of its future inhabitants. π₯π‘οΈβοΈ Did you know? Warmer temperatures produce female hatchlings, while cooler depths give rise to males. Yet, with the looming threat of climate change, the balance is shifting, and our efforts become even more critical.
For an average of two months, we watch over the buried treasures, maintaining optimal conditions for incubation. πποΈ Our numbered markers guide the way, revealing the hidden world beneath the sands. And to shield these delicate eggs from harm, we craft protective roofs and replenish the sand regularly.
Then, the magic unfolds! π Tiny hatchlings break free from their shells and dig themselves up to the surface. π Guided by our team, they're ushered into tanks with salt-water that have been directly drawn from the ocean.
Join us in celebrating these miracles of nature! ππ
