On Sunday, 29th March 2026, the Lions Club of Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte convened its regular March meeting alongside joyous Sinhala Avurudu celebrations at the Lions Activity Centre in Ethulkotte.

Members and guests savored a traditional Sinhala Avurudu breakfast, followed by engaging Avurudu games that fostered camaraderie and fun. All attendees enjoyed a memorable time filled with cultural spirit and fellowship.

The Lions Club of Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte convened its March Board Meeting on Thursday, 26th March 2026, at Sri Paramananda Purana Viharaya, Paramananda Vihara Mawatha, Kotahena, Colombo 13.

Several members participated virtually.
Lion Dimuthu Bandara, Chairman of the Nominations Committee, presented the slate of nominated Board Members for the Lionistic Year 2026/2027, duly approved by the Committee. The Board unanimously endorsed these nominations.

Lions Club of Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte Successfully Completed the Needy Mothers Project on Thursday, 26th March 2026, at Sri Paramananda Purana Viharaya, Paramananda Vihara Mawatha, Kotahena, Colombo 13.

Joint Chairpersons were PDG Lion Rupa Dheerasinghe and Lady Chamila.
Team Members were Lion Dr. Piyal, Lion Avanthi, Lion Mangalika, Lion Nimalka, and Lady Jean.

Since 2004, our club has continuously supported needy mothers. This year, we donated vital baby essentials. including:
Baby bathtub
Mosquito net
Nappy packs (18x18)
Baby frocks and towels
Flannel sheets and pillow cases
Bags, cot sheets, and hangers
Nappy pins and cord clamps
Bed jackets, Cheeththa, and Eva loop pads

Total Project Cost: Rs. 153,900 (items) + Rs. 8,500 (refreshments) = Rs. 162,400

On Monday, 23rd March 2026, the Lions Club of Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte hosted an enlightening lecture on career development, delivered by Lion Augustine Perera, for O/L and A/L students at Helena Wijayawardhana Balika Vidyalaya, Sinharamulla, Kelaniya.

Additionally, we donated two computers and four book racks to the school library, enhancing resources for academic growth and learning.

Lions Club of Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte held another humanitarian event on 28th February 2026 at Sri Lanka Council for the Blind, Rajagiriya.

We are delighted to share the success of this initiative, where we extended support to 30 beneficiaries recently affected by visual impairment due to glaucoma and optic nerve issues. Each received a comprehensive aid package valued at Rs. 10,000, comprising:

- White cane (Rs. 800)
- Cash assistance (Rs. 2,000)
- Dry ration pack (Rs. 6,000)
- Imported T-shirt (Rs. 1,000)
- Sumptuous lunch

Total project value: Rs. 352,500

We extend our sincere gratitude to the Charter Celebration Committee for their tireless efforts and meticulous planning, which were instrumental in making this evening a resounding success.

The Lions Club of Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte organized a medical clinic in Polgasowita as a joint venture, on December 26th. The event featured comprehensive health checkups and treatment for general illnesses, delivered by a panel of doctors including specialists. Specialized services included gynecology clinics, eye clinics, blood sugar checkups, and diabetic screening programs. Free meals were provided to all patients and participants, with approximately 220 beneficiaries served. The project was co-chaired by Lion Dr. Chandra Alwishewa.

The Lions Club of Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte held its December Board and Regular Meeting on 20th December at the Lions Activity Centre in Battaramulla.

During the meeting, we solemnly remembered our fellow citizens who lost their lives in the recent floods and landslides by observing a minute of silence. Additionally, we inducted a new member into the Club.

Today, we successfully organized another humanitarian relief project, distributing dry rations to families affected by the recent floods in the Kelaniya area. A total of 76 families received essential supplies to support them during this difficult time. Today, we proudly organized our annual Christmas Celebration project at St. Thomas Nursery School, Madiwela. As part of the event, we distributed school bags, stationery items, chocolates, and Christmas gifts to the children. The funds for this initiative were generously raised by our dedicated club members.

Refreshments were also provided to all the children and participants. We extend our sincere gratitude to the project co-chairpersons, PDG Lion Rupa Dheerasinghe and Lion Dilip Benedict, for their leadership and commitment.

The Lions Club of Sri Jayawardenepura successfully completed a flood relief project in the Ranala area on December 7th. This initiative was led by our President, who also served as the project chairperson, with generous financial support from his family members. A total of 55 families benefited from this relief effort. We sincerely thank everyone who came forward during this challenging time and demonstrated true Lionism through their compassion and support.
