Connecting Water, Climate & Culture - Cambodia 2026

Lanka Rain Water Harvesting Forum team successfully concluded its visit to Cambodia from 01 st - 06th September 2026, taking part in the 4th IWA Conference on Rainwater Harvesting and Management: Connecting Water, Climate, and Culture.

The visit provided a valuable opportunity to connect with rainwater harvesting practitioners, researchers, professionals and organizations from around the world, while sharing experiences, knowledge and perspectives on rainwater harvesting, water security and climate resilience.

From technical discussions and project experiences to cultural exchange and new professional connections, the Cambodia visit was a meaningful journey of learning and collaboration.

Lanka Rainwater Harvesting Forum hosted the students and members of the Economics and Education faculty of 淡江大學Tamkang University, Taiwan, at the Rain Center on 7th July 2026, following a request from the university to learn more about rainwater harvesting practices in Sri Lanka.
Dr. Tanuja Ariyananda, CEO of LRWHF, together with the LRWHF team, warmly received the visiting delegation and shared valuable insights into Sri Lanka's rainwater harvesting systems and practices.
The visit included an informative presentation and an interactive demonstration of rainwater harvesting processes using 3D modules, providing a valuable opportunity for knowledge sharing and meaningful discussions on sustainable water management, environmental protection, and climate resilience.

This visit created an opportunity to exchange knowledge and strengthen international collaboration towards a water secure and climate resilient future. 🌍💧🌿

In August 2026, LRWHF had the pleasure of welcoming Engineer Mrs. Laxmi Gurung and Technician Mr. Ganesh Thapa Magar from Nepal for a meaningful field visit to our project areas in Ehetuwewa, Kirinda, Kotawehera and Thimbiriyaya.

Their visit was an opportunity to share knowledge, exchange practical experience and strengthen a common commitment to water security and resilient communities. 🌱💧

From rainwater harvesting systems and groundwater recharge to agro-forest gardens, school RWHS and community initiatives, each site reflected how local action can turn rainwater into a valuable resource for people and ecosystems.

Lanka Rain Water Harvesting Forum (LRWHF), in collaboration with Dr. Indika Rathnayaka, of Kurunegala Hospital successfully conducted a Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Awareness Training for beneficiaries of toilet facilities installed under the Integrated Resources Management of Water & Ecosystem Project by the Lanka Rainwater Harvesting Forum at Ehetuwewa DS office on 24 June 2026

The session focused on promoting safe sanitation practices, proper hygiene behaviors, and the importance of clean water in protecting public health and improving community well-being. Participants actively engaged in discussions, gaining practical knowledge that can be applied within their households and shared across their communities.

Together, we continue to empower communities with the knowledge and skills needed to create a healthier, safer, and more sustainable future.

💧Restoring Safe Water to Communities Affected by Cyclone Ditwa 💧

The Lanka Rain Water Harvesting Forum (LRWHF) has successfully completed the Well Cleaning and Desilting Programme, with the generous support of The Coca-Cola Foundation and the Seva Lanka Foundation, to restore safe drinking water after the severe impact of the Ditwa cyclone.

Our efforts focused on the Gampaha District, where we have successfully restored and secured 53 household wells!

World Environment Day 2026 | Tree Planting Programme 🌱
In celebration of World Environment Day, the Lanka Rainwater Harvesting Forum (LRWHF) successfully conducted a community tree-planting programme on 09.06.2026 across Thimbiriyawa, Halmillawewa, Ovita, and Deniya. The event brought together local stakeholders and community members in a shared commitment to environmental conservation.

A total of 24 indigenous trees were planted to enrich the local flora, including:

Karanda (10)

Nabada (1)

Helamba (2)

Kathurumurunga (1)

The event was enriched by the active participation of 25 Participants and representatives from the:
