Rotary Club of Ampara Drives Change with “Hope on Wheels”

The Rotary Club of Ampara successfully completed the second stage of its Hope on Wheels project, distributing 10 bicycles to schoolchildren and small business owners in need.

The event was attended by Immediate Past District Governor Sushena Ranathunga, Past District Governors Suri Rajan and Krish Rajendran, and Immediate Past District Secretary Gamini Madanayaka, along with enthusiastic RC Ampara members.

A highlight of the day was a local woman, who had paused her doormat-making business after her bicycle was stolen, resuming her work immediately upon receiving a new bicycle showcasing the real-life impact of Rotary’s efforts.

This initiative reinforces Rotary’s commitment to Community Economic Development and RC Ampara’s dedication to creating meaningful, lasting change in the community.

As a responsible social organization, the Rotary Club of Ampara recently distributed 10 bicycles to underprivileged children attending Am/Hingurana Maha Vidyalaya and Am/Thimbirigolla Vidyalaya, who commute from distances exceeding five kilometers. This initiative is part of the broader district project, Hope on Wheels, spearheaded by Rotary District 3220.

Aligned with Rotary International’s commitment to enhancing basic education and literacy, as well as fostering the microeconomics development of local communities, this project exemplifies a meaningful intervention to reduce barriers to education. By providing reliable transportation, the program not only facilitates regular school attendance but also empowers children to pursue their studies more effectively, contributing to long-term social and economic upliftment.
