🌸Walking Hand in Hand for Early Detection: Pink Pledge Ampara! 🌸

Today, the Rotary Club of Ampara was honored to stand alongside our community at the Breast Cancer Awareness Walk organized by the General Hospital Ampara.

As part of Rotary District 3220's "Pink Pledge" initiative, this year’s core theme is "Breaking the Taboo." For too long, fear, stigma, and silence have prevented open conversations about breast health. Today, we took a bold step forward together to shatter those barriers, speak openly, and make health awareness accessible to everyone.

Starting from the hospital premises and heading all the way to the Ampara city center, the streets turned pink as participants united to spread vital messages about early detection, health education, and hope. A powerful awareness campaign ran throughout the walk, ensuring key health information reached every corner of our town.

Aligned with Rotary’s primary area of focus—Disease Prevention and Treatment—our team at the Rotary Club of Ampara actively supported the organization of the event and provided refreshments for every participant who stepped up for this important cause.

As a responsible service organization, we remain deeply committed to supporting health initiatives that safeguard our community. Breast cancer is treatable, and early detection saves lives—by breaking the taboo, we ensure no one walks this journey alone or in silence.

🌿 Taking Action for a Greener & Safer Tomorrow! 🌍♻️

As part of the Safe City Initiative, the Rotary Club of Ampara—partnering with the Rotary Club of Negombo—officially handed over dedicated plastic bottle collectors to the Urban Council Ampara and Pradeshiya Sabha Damana.

This project directly aligns with Rotary’s 7th Area of Focus: Supporting the Environment. By placing these collectors in high-traffic public spaces, we are tackling plastic pollution at the source, preventing illegal dumping, and keeping our towns clean and sustainable.

Why This Matters:

Ecosystem Protection: Keeps plastic waste out of local waterways and soil.

Safer Communities: Clean, litter-free public spaces reduce urban hazards and improve public hygiene.

Resource Recovery: Directs single-use plastics into dedicated recycling channels.

The official handing-over ceremony was graced by the distinguished presence of the Chairman of the Urban Council Ampara and the Chairman of the Pradeshiya Sabha Damana, demonstrating strong municipal support for Rotary's environmental goals.

Safe City Initiative of Rotary Club of Ampara

🔥 Empowering Our Community, Protecting Our Future! 🚒

Disasters don't wait for a warning, but preparedness can save lives and protect livelihoods. Demonstrating our commitment as People of Action, the Rotary Club of Ampara and the Rotary Uva Hills RI 3220 joined forces to successfully deliver Project IGNIS - A Comprehensive Fire Awareness & Practical Workshop for the corporate sector in Ampara.

Disaster preparedness starts with knowledge and action. Through this hands-on initiative, local business leaders and staff were equipped with essential fire safety techniques, risk mitigation strategies, and practical emergency response skills to protect our fellow citizens when it matters most.

A massive thanks to Rtn. Anura de Silva of for conducting a marvelous practical session! His high-energy demonstration ensured every participant gained real-world confidence in handling fire emergencies effectively. 👏✨

The Rotary Club of Ampara successfully distributed 10 push bicycles and 2 sewing machines to deserving individuals in the Ampara district today (May 19th) at the Royal Rich Hotel, Ampara. The bicycles will provide a vital lifeline to school children who previously had to walk miles daily to get an education, while the sewing machines will empower families toward self-reliance.

This impactful project, organized by RC Ampara President Rtn. Suresh Lazarus and our dedicated members, was made possible through the generous sponsorship of PDG AKS Suri Rajan from the Rotary Club of Kandy.

The distribution took place in the distinguished presence of Rotary District 3220 leadership and state officials, including: DG Rtn. Delvin Pereira, PDG AKS Suri Rajan, IPDG AKS Sushena Ranatunga, DGE Kumar Sundararaj, DGND Ajith Jayawickrema, PDS Gamini Madanayaka, and Rtn. Dr. Rohantha Athukorala.

And government partners: District Secretary/GA of Ampara Mr. Anupama Mangala Wickramarachchi and Deputy Director of IDB Ampara Mr. Wasantha Kumara also participated in the event.

The Rotary Club of Ampara successfully hosted the Rotary SME Conclave 2026: Empowering Multi-Sector Entrepreneurs today (May 19th) at the Royal Rich Hotel, Ampara. As our signature District Grant Project, this initiative brought a powerful boost to our local economy.

SMEs are the backbone of Ampara. By bringing together 60 local entrepreneurs and top industry experts, this conclave provided the critical tools, market insights, and networks needed to scale businesses, create jobs, and drive regional economic growth.

Supporting Children Affected by Cyclone

The Rotary Club of Ampara donated school books and essential supplies to children affected by the Ditwa Cyclone and students from low-income families.

This initiative helps ensure that all children can continue their education without disruption, restoring hope and opportunity after the disaster.

The project was made possible through Disaster Relief Funds from Rotary District 3220 and the support of the Rotary Club of Ampara.

Empowering Education Through Technology 💻

The Rotary Club of Ampara proudly donated five laptop computers to D.S. Senanayake College, Ampara, supporting students and teachers with improved access to digital learning resources.

These laptops were generously provided to the club by Immediate Past District Governor Sushena Ranathunga, whose continued commitment to education and community development made this initiative possible.

By strengthening access to technology in schools, the Rotary Club of Ampara aims to empower students with the digital tools needed for modern learning and future success.
