On June 10, the Shouf Biosphere Reserve proudly hosted the closing event of the BioConnect Project, marking the successful completion of four years of dedicated work to enhance ecological connectivity, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable landscape management. The event brought together H.E. Minister of Agriculture Dr. Nizar Hani, H.E. Minister of Environment Dr. Tamara El Zein, EU Ambassador Sandra De Waele, and Mr. Jihad Jradi from the European Union Delegation , members of the Al Shouf Cedar Society Board and Executive Committee, CNRS Secretary-General Dr. Shady Abdallah, project partners ACE, SPNL, ADR, alongside key stakeholders, experts, representatives of municipalities, NGOs, and local organizations. It highlighted the key achievements and overall impact of the BioConnect Project, reflecting the collective efforts that strengthened conservation actions, fostered collaboration, and advanced sustainable development across the landscape. The event concluded with a field visit, offering participants firsthand insight into project results on the ground. A special tribute was extended to Mr. Faisal Abou Ezzeddine in recognition of his outstanding commitment, leadership, and invaluable contributions to the Shouf Biosphere Reserve, the Protected Areas in Lebanon and the environment sector as a whole over many years of service. The Shouf Biosphere Reserve extends its sincere gratitude and appreciation to Mr. Faisal Bou Ezzeddine, as well as to all partners, service providers, municipalities, local communities, and organizations whose collaboration played a fundamental role in the success of this process. It also expresses its appreciation to the European Union for its continuous support and commitment to biodiversity conservation, ecological connectivity, and sustainable development. It also thanks all the partners including the European Topic Center, the University of Malaga. Together, we continue building resilient landscapes where nature and people can prosper together.
