On June 10, the Shouf Biosphere Reserve proudly hosted the closing event of the BioConnect Project, marking the successful completion of four years of dedicated work to enhance ecological connectivity, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable landscape management. The event brought together H.E. Minister of Agriculture Dr. Nizar Hani, H.E. Minister of Environment Dr. Tamara El Zein, EU Ambassador Sandra De Waele, and Mr. Jihad Jradi from the European Union Delegation , members of the Al Shouf Cedar Society Board and Executive Committee, CNRS Secretary-General Dr. Shady Abdallah, project partners ACE, SPNL, ADR, alongside key stakeholders, experts, representatives of municipalities, NGOs, and local organizations. It highlighted the key achievements and overall impact of the BioConnect Project, reflecting the collective efforts that strengthened conservation actions, fostered collaboration, and advanced sustainable development across the landscape. The event concluded with a field visit, offering participants firsthand insight into project results on the ground. A special tribute was extended to Mr. Faisal Abou Ezzeddine in recognition of his outstanding commitment, leadership, and invaluable contributions to the Shouf Biosphere Reserve, the Protected Areas in Lebanon and the environment sector as a whole over many years of service. The Shouf Biosphere Reserve extends its sincere gratitude and appreciation to Mr. Faisal Bou Ezzeddine, as well as to all partners, service providers, municipalities, local communities, and organizations whose collaboration played a fundamental role in the success of this process. It also expresses its appreciation to the European Union for its continuous support and commitment to biodiversity conservation, ecological connectivity, and sustainable development. It also thanks all the partners including the European Topic Center, the University of Malaga. Together, we continue building resilient landscapes where nature and people can prosper together.

⁨ في 10 حزيران، استضافت محمية أرز الشوف بفخر حفل اختتام مشروع BioConnect، والذي شكّل محطة ختامية أربع سنوات من العمل المتواصل الهادف إلى تعزيز الترابط البيئي، وحماية التنوع البيولوجي، والإدارة المستدامة للمشهد الطبيعي. جمع هذا الحدث معالي وزير الزراعة الدكتور نزار هاني، ومعالي وزيرة البيئة الدكتورة تمارا الزين، وسفيرة الاتحاد الأوروبي ساندرا دي فاليه، والسيد جهاد جرادي ممثل الاتحاد الأوروبي، إضافة إلى الهيئة الادارية لجمعية أرز الشوف، الأمين العام للمجلس الوطني للبحوث العلمية الدكتور شادي عبدالله، وشركاء المشروع ACE وSPNL وADR، إلى جانب مجموعة من مقدّمي الخدمات، والخبراء، ورؤساء البلديات، والمنظمات غير الحكومية، والمؤسسات المحلية. وقد سلّط الحدث الضوء على أبرز إنجازات مشروع BioConnect وأثره العام، عاكساً الجهود المشتركة التي عززت إجراءات الحماية، ورسّخت التعاون بين مختلف الشركاء، وساهمت في دفع عجلة التنمية المستدامة على مستوى المشهد الطبيعي في المنطقة. واختُتمت الفعالية بزيارة ميدانية أتاحت للمشاركين فرصة الاطلاع المباشر على نتائج المشروع على أرض الواقع.
وخلال اللقاء تم تكريم إلى الأستاذ فيصل بو عزالدين تقديراً لالتزامه المتميز، وقيادته، وإسهاماته القيّمة في محمية أرز الشوف على مدى سنوات طويلة من الخدمة والعطاء. وتتقدّم محمية أرز الشوف بجزيل الشكر والامتنان إلى الأستاذ فيصل بو عزالدين، وإلى جميع الشركاء ومقدّمي الخدمات والبلديات والمجتمعات المحلية والمنظمات التي كان لتعاونها دور أساسي في إنجاح هذا المسار. كما تتوجّه بالامتنان إلى الاتحاد الأوروبي على دعمه المستمر والتزامه بحماية التنوع البيولوجي، وتعزيز الترابط البيئي، ودعم التنمية المستدامة.
وتتقدّم بالشكر إلى جميع الشركاء ومن ضمنهم جامعة مالاغا. معاً، نواصل بناء مشاهد طبيعية أكثر مرونة، حيث تتعايش الطبيعة والإنسان وتزدهر جنباً إلى جنب.

جمعية إنماء القدرات في الريف (ADR) تنظّم اليوم التعريفي لمشروع MERAVIGLIA في بيروت

نظّمت ADR اليوم التعريفي لمشروع MERAVIGLIA المموّل من الاتحاد الأوروبي ضمن برنامج Interreg NEXT MED، تحت عنوان:

“ريادة الأعمال الخضراء كرافعة للاندماج والتحول المستدام في منطقة البحر الأبيض المتوسط”

وشارك في اللقاء ممثلون عن البلديات واتحادات البلديات، الجامعات ومؤسسات التدريب، منظمات المجتمع المدني، رواد الأعمال والخبراء في مجالات التنمية والبيئة والابتكار.

تعرّف المشاركون إلى أهداف المشروع وأنشطته الرامية إلى دعم الابتكار الأخضر وتعزيز فرص التعلم والتشبيك، من خلال تطوير مفهوم الأماكن الثالثة كمساحات تجمع بين التعلم والتبادل والابتكار وريادة الأعمال.

كما شهدت الفعالية طاولة مستديرة تفاعلية ناقشت دور الأماكن الثالثة في تعزيز ريادة الأعمال الخضراء، وتمكين الشباب والنساء، وبناء شراكات مستدامة بين البلديات والجامعات ومؤسسات التدريب والقطاع الخاص والمجتمع المدني.

🤝 شكّل اللقاء فرصة قيّمة للحوار وتبادل الخبرات واستكشاف آفاق التعاون من أجل بناء منظومة داعمة للابتكار والتنمية المستدامة في لبنان ومنطقة المتوسط.

Brainstorming Session on Third Places with Local Stakeholders

🏛️🤝 On 17/2/2026, ADR organized an interactive meeting in 🇱🇧 bringing together local stakeholders for a brainstorming session around the concept of “Third Places” within the MERAVIGLIA project.

🌱 Envisioned as inclusive community hubs, Eco Third Places aim to foster collaboration, creativity, learning, and sustainable initiatives that respond to local aspirations and needs.

💡 The session focused on idea generation, sharing perspectives, and exploring possibilities for how this space could best serve the community. We thank all participants for their energy, creativity, and valuable contributions.

🚀 ADR looks forward to continuing this collaborative work with local actors as the initiative develops.

New Skills, New Beginnings for Aadchit’s Women and Youth
In Aadchit, a dedicated group of 9 women 👩‍🧵 and 2 youth 👥 have joined a hands-on training program in upholstery and curtain making 🪑🪟.
Throughout the program, participants are not only gaining technical skills 🔧, but also strengthening their life skills 🌱 and financial literacy 💡💰 — helping them build confidence, independence, and new livelihood opportunities.
This initiative supports local talent, encourages creativity 🎨, and opens doors for sustainable income generation within the community. 💪🌿
This training is implemented in the framework of the project “Economic Strengthening and Social Stability of vulnerable and displaced communities in South Lebanon”, funded by The Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation and implemented by ADR in partnership with and AIDA

On September 12, 2025, at the Tyre Coast Nature Reserve (TCNR)
The European Union, the Association for Rural Development (ADR), Shouf Biosphere Reserve, TCNR, and Municipality of Tyre, met to present the BioConnect project updates and visit the TCNR conservation zone.

Outputs of BIOCONNECT at TCNR:
• Awareness, training, and sensitization programs for local communities.
• New boat & UTV, for sea and land patrols.
• Modern camera systems for monitoring.
• Upgraded facilities and fences.
• Comprehensive signage system for visitors and sensitive areas.
• Support for sustainable farming linking livelihoods and conservation.
• Support to TCNR to join the IUCN Green List process
During the visit:
• Eng. Hassan Dbouk, President of the Municipality of Tyre, highlighted the ecological and socio-economic benefits. He emphasized reserve’s importance to Tyre and need for more funding amid crises.
• The EU delegation praised achievements, stressed sustainability beyond project’s end.
• Dr. Badreddine, Manager of TCNR, confirmed TCNR’s commitment to sustainability.
