WHO is AFAQ:
AFAQ stands for HORIZON… the capacity of always expand its knowledge, vision and perspective… AFAQ is always searching for new horizons to serve the community and fulfil its needs…
Under the registration number 33/AD, AFAQ is a nonprofit organization founded in 2006. AFAQ believes that nation-building depends on equal access to rights and duties and most importantly on implementing
the culture of common good based on citizenship values. Mission:Defend the rights of the North governorate and AKKAR community to live in a fair and sustainable region. Vision: To provide and support citizens of the North governorate and AKKAR in disadvantaged social groups to have access to basic human rights and to advocate for their causes. Values: Humanity, Respect, Social Justice, Transparency, Innovation
Strategic Objectives:
1. Raise awareness and promote the international bill of Human Rights in small communities of AKKAR and the North governorate.
2. Advocate for the women, children and people with special needs.
3. Create and implement social, health and educational programs.
4. Help develop a healthy environment that would foster intellectual, social and cultural development.
5. Empower the Youth community to play the role of community leaders and agents of change. Introduction:
Founded in 2006, it aims to provide assistance to the population of the North governorate and AKKAR who is suffering from severe poverty and lack of government intervention for its development. We, at AFAQ, believe that nation building should start from the development of the rural areas of our country by providing the basic needs to a fair and sustainable life. AFAQ programs responded to the needs of the north governorate and AKKAR population by creating programs and projects and playing the role of solution provider. More than 30 projects were implemented such as access to education, development of the role of the women, empowerment of youth and children through different cultural, educational and self-development programs and finally: socio-economical empowerment through entrepreneurship programs. Our driven-values guarantee the quality of our work: we believe in humanity by empowering the community, we believe in respect as a fundamental way of communicating, we believe in social justice by creating equal opportunities to all and finally and most importantly we believe in transparency because it is an essential key to sustainable development. Activities and Programs:
- Emergency relief services:
1- Organized a team of volunteers to help after the explosion of “4 AUGUST “by re-building homes, providing all type of workers to help in different ways (electrical workers,engineers,builders…) and giving some electrical equipment for empty homes.
2- Organized an emergency room to help those in need after the explosion of “TLEIL” with giving all the medical care in what concerns doctors,medical supplies and medication.
3- Organized teams to help with the “COVID-19 pandemic” by delivering food, medication to those in need, providing free PCR tests, sterilization tools and hospitalization to emergency cases.
- Women and Youth:
1- Involve youth by helping the municipalities of AKKAR to determine the damage caused by the fires that came on AKKAR green valleys.
2- Collaborate with Seeds program at Balamand University to promote social and developmental work among students
3- Integrate youth in community engagement activities as volunteers with AFAQ association mainly in the field of research about AKKAR area in collaboration with the municipalities and the civil society.
4- Look up for new business ideas among youth entrepreneur;support them financially and give them access to marketing strategies for establishing new ideas and improve their own businesses
5- Create job opportunities for women and youth in rural areas by initiating small businesses for them.
6- Empower women by getting her more involved in political and public life in municipalities and other forms of activism.
7- Organize conferences and events about violence towards women and children and how to protect minor girls from early marriage
8- Part of the campaign to defend women’s right in order to allow her the right to give nationality to her children
9- Organize “MARATHON AKKAR” and succeed in engaging a large number of participants.
10- Organize art exhibition for young artists in North Lebanon- Tripoli.
11- Organize events to empower the youth interaction and community spirit such as: screening of the Mondial at the Tripoli Olympic stadium with entertainments program.
12- Encourage sports by supporting financially dedicated sports empowerment events such as football games.
- Education:
1. Founding “EDUCARE” a center for children with special needs and learning disabilities.
2. Work through EDUCARE center on inclusion and integration children with special needs in schools by applying the system of a shadow teacher.
3. Organize events and campaigns to prevent school dropouts for children and youth in AKKAR region.
4. Organize campaigns to prevent and try to stop child labor and integrated them in schools.
5. Organizea train-the-trainer workshop about teaching kids with special needs.
6. Encourage youth to continue their studies by providing scholarships for schools and universities for a better education and to get a high level of educated students.
- Rural development:
1- Empower a group of young adults in rural areas to build their own businesses and support their families.
2- Work on reconstructing public schools in AKKAR and Tripoli and to create to students a better learning environment.
3- Install heating systems in public schools in AKKAR.
4- Distribute clothes, socks and blankets in public schools in AKKAR.
5- Renovate and furnish classes in Georges Farah public school in AKKAR.
6- Organize a program for the elderly in partnership with different CSO and NGOs at Khan El Saboun,Souk Haraj and Hamam
