Escalating Grave Violations Against Children in Lebanon Require Urgent International Action
The Arab Network for Child Rights – MANARA expresses its deep concern regarding the grave and unprecedented violations affecting children in Lebanon as a result of the military escalation since March 2026. These violations constitute a clear breach of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the principles of international humanitarian law, which oblige all parties to protect civilians, particularly children, at all times.
The targeting of civilian areas, the killing and injury of children, the disruption of schools and healthcare facilities, and the growing waves of forced displacement are alarming indicators of the escalating risks threatening children’s lives, safety, and fundamental rights.
Protecting children in armed conflict is not only a humanitarian imperative but also a binding legal obligation under international law. The international community must act urgently to halt these violations and ensure accountability.
We call on the United Nations and the international community to:
• Immediately halt attacks targeting civilians.
• Ensure full protection of children at all times.
• Safeguard schools, hospitals, and collective shelters.
• Guarantee unhindered access to humanitarian assistance.
• Initiate independent investigations and hold those responsible for violations accountable.
Children in Lebanon are not merely numbers in humanitarian reports; they are lives and futures that must be protected.
