As part of LRI’s engagement with UN Global Compact Lebanon, Dr. Maya Nehme joined the UN Global Compact Leaders’ Summit 2026, on September 22-23, in New York, participating in discussions on sustainability and the urgent need to accelerate action for climate and nature.

Thank you to UN Global Compact Lebanon and its Executive Director, Deenah Fakhoury, for the opportunity to connect, exchange perspectives, and advance these shared priorities.

As part of BALADNA, funded by the European Union, the Embassy of Denmark in Beirut, and the French Development Agency (AFD), the LRI team met with 80 farmers from Jezzine and Ain Majdalein in the Jezzine district, as well as Qrayeh and Ain Deleb in the Saida district, on 17-18 June, to introduce the project and its planned support for local communities.

The sessions explained eligibility criteria, the selection process and beneficiary commitments, while introducing the benefits of agroecological practices for more sustainable agriculture.

Through agricultural development, economic opportunities, vocational training and local development, BALADNA supports inclusive and sustainable recovery.

في إطار مشروع «بلدنا»، المموّل من الاتحاد الأوروبي وسفارة الدنمارك في بيروت والوكالة الفرنسية للتنمية (AFD)، التقى جمعية التحريج في لبنان (LRI) بـ80 مزارعًا ومزارعة من جزين وعين مجدلين في قضاء جزين، ومن قرية وعين الدلب في قضاء صيدا، يومَي 17 و18 حزيران للتعريف بالمشروع والأنشطة المخطّط لها لدعم المجتمعات المحلية.

تناولت اللقاءات معايير الأهلية، وآلية اختيار المستفيدين، والتزامات المشاركة، إلى جانب فوائد اعتماد الممارسات الزراعية الإيكولوجية لتعزيز استدامة الزراعة.

يدعم مشروع «بلدنا» التعافي الشامل والمستدام من خلال التنمية الزراعية، والفرص الاقتصادية، والتدريب المهني، والتنمية المحلية.

Not every tree belongs everywhere! Choosing the right native species, understanding soil and climate conditions, and ensuring proper care are essential to giving each tree the best chance to survive and thrive. 🌳

At LRI, we believe successful reforestation goes beyond the number of trees planted. It takes expertise, careful planning, and long-term commitment to restore healthier, more resilient forests.

💚 Because every tree deserves the right start.

🌱 زراعة شجرة هي البداية، لكن زراعتها بالطريقة الصحيحة هي ما يصنع الفرق.

مش كل شجرة بتناسب كل أرض! 🌳 اختيار الأنواع المحلية المناسبة، وفهم طبيعة التربة والمناخ، وتأمين العناية اللازمة، كلها عوامل أساسية لتعزيز فرص بقاء الأشجار ونموّها.

في جمعية التحريج في لبنان، منؤمن إن نجاح إعادة التحريج مش بس بعدد الأشجار المزروعة، بل بالخبرة والتخطيط والمتابعة على المدى الطويل، لنساهم بإعادة إحياء غابات أكثر صحة وقدرة على الصمود.

🦦 CFN Wednesday | Protecting Lebanon’s Eurasian Otter

The Eurasian otter (Lutra lutra) is considered Critically Endangered in Lebanon, according to the IUCN Otter Specialist Group’s Global Otter Conservation Strategy (2018). Yet important knowledge gaps remain around the country’s surviving populations.

To help bridge this gap, the Lebanon Reforestation Initiative (LRI) is using advanced, non-invasive research techniques, including environmental DNA (eDNA), spraint collection, and camera trapping, to better understand otter distribution, population density, diet, spatial organisation, and population structure.

The findings will help identify key populations and priority areas for restoration and conservation, informing the development of a national conservation plan and supporting efforts towards a national decree for the protection of the species.

As a keystone species, protecting the Eurasian otter also means helping safeguard the health and resilience of Lebanon’s riparian ecosystems. 🌿💧

This project is supported by the Disney Conservation Fund, U.S. Forest Service International Programs (USFS IP), and Idea Wild.

🌱 Dans le cadre du projet HAUD Berdaouni – Zahlé, LRI accompagne les agriculteurs vers des pratiques plus durables pour réduire l’utilisation de produits chimiques et contribuer à préserver la qualité de l’eau.

À travers des formations pratiques sur le compostage et les solutions agricoles naturelles, ainsi que la mise à disposition d’équipements, les agriculteurs apprennent à valoriser les ressources disponibles autour d’eux pour protéger leurs cultures. 🌿💧

Une agriculture plus durable, au service de nos terres et de nos ressources en eau.

Today, on International Geodiversity Day, SIMMER reminds us that wildfire resilience begins with understanding the land itself.

Rocks, soils, landforms and water shape how Mediterranean landscapes experience fire, erosion and recovery. Protecting our communities therefore also means protecting the natural foundations on which our ecosystems depend.

For SIMMER, resilience is not only about fighting the fire. It is about understanding and protecting the landscape before, during and long after the flames are gone.
