The Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) Jordan held its 2026 Festival of Encounter on Friday, bringing together refugee and local communities in a two-day celebration of cultural diversity, artistic expression and social cohesion.

Held at Collège de La Salle Frères in Jabal Al Hussein, the event attracted more than 2,000 visitors over two days and featured more than 200 performers and around 150 volunteers, according to JRS Jordan.

This video takes us to Fr. Frans van der Lugt Jesuit Centre in Homs, Bab Sbaa, to share part of the journey of learning, support, and perseverance that has accompanied students through their Basic Education Certificate exams (Grade 9).

Since 2022, our annual Festival of Encounter has celebrated the talents, cultures, and contributions of refugees and local communities, creating a space where people can meet, learn from one another, and build bridges of understanding and solidarity.

This year, we are excited to announce that the Festival of Encounter is bigger than ever before, expanding to two full days of celebration, dialogue, music, art, food, and cultural exchange!

In celebration of World Refugee Day, join us for the 5th edition of the Festival of Encounter on 26 and 27 June, from 3:00 to 9:30 pm, at College De La Salle Frere, Jabal Al-Hussein.

Under the theme "United in Diversity", this year's Festival invites us to reflect on a simple but powerful message: we can be united despite our differences. Diversity is not a threat - it is an opportunity to enrich our communities, learn from one another, and create shared horizons of unity.

The Festival also stands in solidarity with communities forcibly displaced by war and conflict, while giving voice to refugee communities whose stories are too often unseen and unheard.

At FVDL (JRS Lebanon), in collaboration with Contaminando Sonrisas, a powerful story came to life on stage.

A clown, seen as a refugee, arrives searching for acceptance in a new community. Through moments of emotion, humor, and connection, the story shows something deeply human: when people are welcomed and accepted, they are able to give back what they carry within them, joy, happiness, and hope.

A simple message that speaks beyond the stage: belonging has the power to transform both individuals and communities. 🎭✨
