The Lebanon Policy Advocates Campaign Lebanese National Campaign for Women Rights Wayn Ba'dna

“The National Commission for Lebanese Women (NCLW) launched a National campaign entitled “The Long Road Ahead...” (Wayn Ba’dna) on International Women’s Day, the 8th of March 2011. This initiative aimed at amending existing social and economic legislations so as to remove any discriminatory provisions against women therein . This step is aligned with the Lebanese Constitution and International Tre

aties concluded by the Lebanese state, of which the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW). The campaign is founded on the principle of close partnership with various civil society agencies, such as women’s associations, non-governmental organizations, representatives of the Bar Association, as well as academic and economic institutions. The campaign seeks to identify shortcomings in the existing laws that affect the economic well-being of women and to amend these laws in order to achieve equality between men and women in Lebanon. Through this partnership, NCLW has submitted a number of draft laws in order to amend legal texts containing discriminatory provisions against women; the main laws and decrees addressed are: Civil servants Law, National Defense law, Tax laws (Income and Inheritance), Labor Law, Social Security Law, Commercial Law ….”
