YAZAN is a Beirut-based collective that brings together artists, cultural managers, practitioners and producers interested in engaging in multidisciplinary artistic practices, while not having access to mainstream modes of production. Yazan attempts at creating production opportunities and possibilities and its artists and practitioners work in the fields of performa
nce arts, including dance, theatre and music, documentary and fiction films, visual arts, writing as well as education and pedagogical activities. YAZAN was officially co-founded in 2018 by Walid Abdelnour, Caroline Hatem and Kinda Hassan. Our goal in the medium and long term is to professionalize the sector and to create competent artistic and technical teams at the regional level, and this through the following:
• Quality productions that adapt universal texts revealing their dramaturgical relevance in our socio-political and economic context, as well as favouring interdisciplinary artistic collaborations.
• Intensive hands-on training programs with high-caliber international trainers intended to build capacities in the field of performing arts in a context of lack of quality education. The YPAT program aims at creating teams of local and regional artists, writers, technicians and cultural practitioners to nurture an increasingly professionalized cultural sector.
• A sprawling network (NCO) of public and private entities as municipalities or cultural foundations throughout Lebanon aiming at the dissemination of high quality music and theatre performances within a curated touring program. Touring creates sustainable opportunities for artists while promoting access to art for culturally deprived audiences in remote places.
يزن جمعية ثقافية مقرها في بيروت تأسست عام ٢٠١٨ تعمل على جمع الفنانين المهتمين بالممارسة الفنية المتعددة الاختصاصات، والذين لا يملكون مدخلاً إلى وسائط الإنتاج السائدة. تهدف يزن أولا الى خلق فرص إنتاجية أمام الفنانين والمؤدين والعاملين في مختلف مجالات الفنون الأدائية كالرقص والمسرح والموسيقى وصناعة الأفلام الوثائقية والروائية والفنون البصرية والكتابة. تسعى من خلال خياراته ونشاطها الى رفع المستوى القائم وتشكيل مجموعة من المهنيين العرب تُظهر قدرات تقنية وفنية مميزة. هدفها الثاني بناء القدرات في المجال الفني والتقني من خلال أنشطة تربوية مكثفة تهيئ اشخاص يعملون لاحقاً بتفوّق وشغف على ساحة الفنون الأدائية والفنون البصرية. هدفها الأخير هو خلق إمكانيات نشر الأعمال والإنتاجات على امتداد مساحة البلد والمنطقة، مما يتيح للفنانين فرص أوسع للظهور والتدريب والعمل. YAZAN rassemble des artistes, techniciens et praticiens culturels au sein d'une plateforme artistique multidisciplinaire basée au Liban. Dans un contexte régional de marginalisation des praticiens culturels et d'absence de politique de soutien, nous avons pour mission de lancer des opportunités de création, d'échange, d'entraide et de reconnaissance par la mise en commun de ressources matérielles et humaines. Aussi, nous pourrons assurer la construction et le renforcement des capacités en vue d'oeuvres, de projets, et de rencontres qui manifestent de la diversité, de l'ouverture et d'un regard critique au sein de nos sociétés. L’association YAZAN est officiellement fondée en Juin 2018 par Kinda Hassan, Caroline Hatem et Walid Abdelnour.
