The National Institution of Social Care and Vocational Training (NISCVT), known as Beit Atfal Assumoud (BAS), is a humanitarian, non-religious, apolitical, non-governmental organization, which works among the Palestinian communities in Lebanon. It was established after the massacre at Tal El-Zaatar refugee camp on August 12th, 1976 to care for orphaned children who had lost both of their parents i
n the massacre. On June 5th, 1982 after the second Israeli invasion of Lebanon, Shatila refugee camp became the site of two additionally horrifying massacres, this time targeting women and children as well as men. The huge wave of displacement and extremely difficult living conditions prompted NISCVT to focus its services to serve the whole family rather than children. Today, NISCVT has services available to Palestinian refugees and other disadvantaged nationalities living inside the camps or close to them. NISCVT mission is to contribute to the development of the Palestinian community in Lebanon through services addressing the needs of families, and through various gender-balanced projects empowering children, youth, and their parents or guardians. Objectives:
• To improve the socio-economic situation of sponsored children and vulnerable elderly
- To offer health, education, cultural, psycho-social services to the Palestinian communities geared towards children, women and youth
- To improve youth’s psychosocial well-being while promoting greater gender equity and balanced gender relation within the community
• To preserve the Palestinian identity by keeping alive its cultural heritage and transmitting it to the new generations.
