Ghiwa Abi Haidar writes: "Healing from the loss and grief of war should not feel like a luxury for a few. Everyone who endured loss in the previous wars, or who still needs to rebuild and plan for what’s next must have time to heal. All of us have been denied this as Isreal once again bombards our cities and forces people from our villages".

On 28 April, Oxfam Lebanon's Country Director Bachir Ayoub and the Minister of Agriculture Dr. Nizar Hani signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding, formalizing a partnership built on shared priorities and a long-term commitment to the communities we serve.

The MoU aligns with Oxfam in Lebanon's Economic Justice Strategy (2026–2028) and the Lebanon National Agriculture Strategy (2026–2035) — creating collaborative linkages across programming, advocacy, policy, and capacity-sharing to strengthen livelihoods and support inclusive, resilient economic recovery.

In a context of protracted crisis, conflict, and displacement, partnerships like this matter. They anchor local ownership, leverage collective expertise, and keep communities at the center.

Reacting to the latest Acute Food Insecurity analysis on Lebanon, Oxfam's Country Director in Lebanon, Bachir Ayoub, said:

"Oxfam is deeply concerned by the latest findings showing that acute food insecurity in Lebanon has sharply deteriorated, with almost 1.2 million people – 24% of the entire population, currently facing crisis or emergency levels of hunger.

"The findings show that a devastating combination of Israeli war, economic collapse, high food and fuel prices, and mass displacement, have stripped families of food, jobs, and homes, leaving entire communities without the means to survive.

“What makes this moment especially alarming is the collapse of the humanitarian safety net that so many vulnerable people had been forced to rely on. For Syrian refugees, the situation is nothing short of catastrophic: food assistance coverage is set to plummet from 60 percent to just 15 percent starting June, cutting off lifelines at precisely the moment they need it most.

"This is not just a food crisis, but a full-scale humanitarian emergency with compounding crises feeding one another. Oxfam calls on the international community and donors to urgently restore and scale up humanitarian food assistance, so aid reaches the hardest-hit communities, including Syrian refugees and the recently displaced in this latest escalation”.

Reacting to the announcement of a 10-day ceasefire in Lebanon, Oxfam country director Bachir Ayoub said:

Tonight’s announcement of a ceasefire in Lebanon is desperately needed but must result in an end to the killing and forced displacement of civilians. Once again, it has come far too late for the thousands Israel has killed and maimed, for the families now grieving, and for the millions whose homes, livelihoods, and communities have been deliberately destroyed.

A 10-day pause will not allow the 1.3 million people who have been forcibly displaced because of Israel’s relentless bombardment and invasion of the country to go back to their homes and rebuild their lives, or for all those who have lived under the ever-constant threat of Israeli drones and bombs.

Lebanon needs a full, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire that all parties adhere to. One that ends Israel’s occupation in Lebanon and guarantees the immediate withdrawal of all Israeli forces. Humanitarian aid must reach communities without obstruction, and reparations must follow so people can return and rebuild their lives with dignity.

Powerful states must learn lessons and finally end Israel’s decades of impunity from international law violations. The collapse of the worlds systems and order, and aiding and abetting Israel’s genocide in Gaza enabled this disastrous, yet inevitable, escalation which has been catastrophic for millions of people.

Oxfam has released a new press statement raising serious concerns over the escalation of attacks on water infrastructure in Lebanon.

Oxfam fears that Israel’s military blueprint of attacking water infrastructure, used throughout its genocide in Gaza, is now being rolled out across parts of Lebanon.

Israeli forces are destroying water and sanitation infrastructure including strikes near sites that were being rehabilitated after having been destroyed or damaged in the last war, Oxfam analysis has found.

Migrant workers are particularly vulnerable during war, as the Kafala system ties their legal status to employers, leaving them without protection, mobility, or access to basic rights.

With the support of Oxfam, Sisters with a Strategy is helping ease the burden on migrant workers by providing 100 hot meals each day for 10 days.

Oxfam and partners are responding to the immediate needs of people who have been forcibly displaced by Israel’s bombardment and ground invasion of Lebanon, as the conflict across the region enters a dramatically new and dangerous phase.

"The inability of the international community to hold Israel accountable for its ongoing violations of international law has led us to this point, where we again see hundreds of thousands of people in Lebanon forced to flee in the march towards a wider regional war", said Lebanon country director Bachir Ayoub.
