The Refugee Film Project

The Refugee Film Project We're working with SB OverSeas to help Syrian refugee kids write, act and direct their own film. Healing through creativity. Thank you! www.sboverseas.org

My name is Aphra and I just got back from teaching Syrian child refugees in Lebanon. I was there as part of a volunteering programme with an NGO called SB OverSeas, whose staff work tirelessly to help these kids enter the Lebanese public school system. There are now more Syrian children than Lebanese ones in Lebanese public schools – but the school, called Bokra Ahla which means 'a better tomorrow

' in Arabic, hasn't given up on those left behind. When I was teaching there, I saw first hand there how resilient and energetic the kids are in the face of adversity. They live in a dangerous slum called Shatila but meeting them you wouldn't even know it. So I was inspired to go back to Lebanon with my two professional filmmaker friends, Shyam and Mark, to help the kids write, direct and act in their own film. It's going to be riotous fun for them handling loads of expensive kit, plus they will have the chance to heal through creativity and self-expression. Please visit our crowdfunding page if you can donate even just a little bit towards this project! And even if you can't we'd love for you to like and share our photos and videos.
