A Special Rotary Encounter in Amsterdam 🇳🇱🤝🇱🇧

Yesterday, I had the great pleasure of visiting the Rotary Club Amsterdam, the oldest Rotary Club in the Netherlands, for a particularly meaningful evening at Arti et Amicitiae.

My heartfelt thanks go to President Sabine Gimbrère, who, despite a very special and busy evening for her Club, so graciously made time to welcome me personally before the meeting.

The occasion coincided with Prinsjesdag, an important day in the Netherlands marking the opening of the new parliamentary year and the presentation of the national budget. Each year, the Rotary Club Amsterdam marks this occasion by welcoming a special guest, and this year the Club was hosting a former cabinet minister.

Knowing how full the programme would be, Sabine kindly suggested that we meet beforehand, giving us the opportunity to speak more personally about Lebanon, the Rotary Club of Beirut Cosmopolitan, our projects and the realities we face, before introducing me to several members of her Club.

It was also a great pleasure to meet Past President Frits Spangenberg, and to share thoughtful conversations in a spirit of genuine Rotary fellowship.

A beautiful banner exchange between the Rotary Club Amsterdam and the Rotary Club of Beirut Cosmopolitan symbolized what Rotary represents at its best: friendship beyond borders, mutual understanding, openness to one another’s realities, and the possibility of building meaningful connections between clubs and districts.

From Amsterdam to Beirut, these encounters remind us that wherever we travel, Rotary gives us a common language of friendship, service and humanity.

My sincere gratitude to President Sabine Gimbrère and the members of Rotary Club Amsterdam for their warm welcome and for making me feel so truly at home within our worldwide Rotary family. 💙🌍

It was such a pleasure to meet Debbie Jackson today in Rotterdam. ❤️🌍

A truly warm and inspiring encounter, filled with meaningful exchanges from district to district and a beautiful sharing of the Rotary values that unite us beyond borders.

I particularly appreciated Debbie’s warmth, openness, and deep commitment to service. Our conversation reflected so beautifully the values of friendship, cooperation, leadership, and service that we both deeply cherish.

Moments like these remind us that Rotary is above all about people meeting, connecting, exchanging experiences, and building meaningful bridges across districts and countries.

So grateful for this beautiful encounter and I sincerely hope our Rotary paths will cross again very soon. ❤️🤝🌹

One of the beautiful encounters I will take with me from Rotterdam was meeting Florentina Dushi, District Governor 2026–2027 of District 2485 Albania–Kosovo, and Dr. Agron S. Abrashi.

Florentina truly impressed me by her warmth, intelligence and natural leadership. As the first female and youngest Governor of her District, and with her background in organizational psychology, leadership and human resources, she brings to Rotary a very human understanding of people, together with vision, energy and determination.

I was equally delighted to meet Dr. Agron Abrashi, Assistant Governor and the first Arch Klumph Society member from Kosovo and District 2485. Beyond his remarkable Rotary commitment, I especially appreciated the philosophy behind his life and work: that medicine is not simply about treating illness, but above all about serving humanity. A deeply interesting, generous and thoughtful person, with whom it was a real pleasure to exchange ideas.

Two inspiring Rotarians whose simplicity, kindness and commitment beautifully reflect the spirit of Rotary; and another wonderful connection born in Rotterdam that I sincerely hope will continue. 💙🌍

💙 Final Day – Rotary European Action Summit 2026 | Rotterdam

A meaningful conclusion to an inspiring Summit under the theme “TO BELONG – The Power of Connection and Action.”

The day opened with a humble and deeply human testimony, reminding us that true leadership begins with authenticity and lived experience.

A particularly meaningful moment for me was the intervention of Rotary International President Olayinka “Yinka” Babalola and his vision for Rotary beyond 2030: connected, relevant, welcoming and open.

I had the opportunity to raise a question close to my heart:

How can Rotary reconnect with former members, especially those who drifted away during and after Covid, and make them feel they belong again?

Reconnection can itself become a powerful form of membership growth.

The discussions on The Rotary Foundation also reminded us that every contribution must translate into transparency, responsibility and real impact.

My warmest congratulations to the entire team behind this remarkable Summit.

And the Rotary road continues: Bari 2027, then Barcelona for the Rotary International Convention.

Closing with “We Are the Road” said it all.

I leave Rotterdam with new friendships, new ideas and one renewed conviction:

Connect. Reconnect. Include. Act. Create Lasting Impact. 💙🌍

Until we meet again — perhaps in Bari, perhaps in Barcelona, and hopefully one day in my beloved Lebanon, the Land of the Cedars. ❤️🇱🇧

💙 Day 2 – Rotary European Action Summit 2026 | Rotterdam

A particularly meaningful day for me, especially the sessions dedicated to Mental Health.

Stan Uyland, Founder and Chair of Rotary Mental Health Netherlands, shared how Martin Luther King Jr.’s words, “I have a dream,” inspired his own dream: to break the stigma around mental health and make it a true priority within Rotary and our communities.

Prof. Dr. Ana Mafalda Reis from Portugal also offered a fascinating perspective on the brain, stress, resilience and the importance of feeling safe, supported and connected.

As an educator, I had the opportunity to address them both with a question close to my heart:

“What practical role can Rotary play in helping schools create sustainable mental health programs for students, teachers, and families, with measurable long-term impact?”

To close this deeply meaningful session, one final message stayed with me: “Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile.” Albert Einstein.
A beautiful reminder that caring, listening and supporting one another give true meaning to service.
And perhaps this is also the heart of mental health: no one should ever feel alone.

A powerful reminder that Rotary can contribute not only by responding to crises, but also through prevention, early detection, awareness and long-term support, especially for young people. 💙🧠🌍

A Proud Moment for District 2452 💙💛

During a beautiful evening in the magnificent Laurenskerk in Rotterdam, we felt an immense sense of pride as we celebrated an exceptional milestone for our own Rotary District 2452 – Zone 21B.

Warmest congratulations to PP Yaseen M. Jaffer, Rotary Club of Bur Dubai, on joining the prestigious Arch Klumph Society; Trustees Circle, The Rotary Foundation’s highest level of philanthropic recognition. His extraordinary generosity and commitment to Doing Good in the World are a true inspiration to all of us and will help create lasting impact for generations to come.

We are especially proud to see this remarkable recognition coming from within our own District 2452, connecting the UAE, Lebanon and our wider Rotary family through one shared commitment to service.
