Ten years of age, and burdens that mountains could not bear.

Between acute malnutrition, epileptic seizures, and the loss of his father, the child Muhammad al-Susi struggles against death in a tent in Gaza City. It is not only hunger that gnaws at his frail body, but also the siege that denies him medication and treatment for his speech and stunted growth.

Muhammad is not merely a number; he is a story of Palestinian pain demanding his right to life behind the wall of hunger and aggression.

On World Press Freedom Day, the numbers reveal a shocking reality in the Gaza Strip: more than 262 journalists have been martyred, and over 240 have been arrested, amid direct targeting of anyone who carries a camera or conveys the truth.

The journalist in Gaza is no longer merely exposed to the numerous collateral dangers of war… but has become a primary target for the occupation army, which has outpaced all others in killing media professionals.

Between bombardment, arrest, and enforced disappearance, the media work environment is being eroded, and a blackout is being imposed by force.

Yet despite this, voices continue to report what is happening… because the truth, even under fire, cannot be buried.

In Gaza City, young woman Inshirah al-Madani (18 years old) fights a double battle: against cancer… and against the siege. Inside a displacement tent, her condition deteriorates day by day, after she lost sight in her left eye, amid the absence of treatment and the difficulty of leaving to receive it.

Her story is not an isolated case, but rather a reflection of the suffering of countless patients who are denied their fundamental right to treatment, despite urgent pleas to save their lives before it is too late.

Imagine 14,000 people living in an area no larger than 1 km²… without sufficient water, without medicine, without stable food, and under constant threat of being targeted. This is not imagination; it is the reality endured by over two million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, crammed into only about 40% of the Strip's area.

Despite talk of a "ceasefire," targeting continues, leaving life there suspended between a declared truce and a reality imposed by force.

On World Press Freedom Day, the Occupation breaks all international laws by targeting 262 journalists since October 2023. They kill "the witness" so that "the truth" may die, but their blood will remain the narrative that will never be erased.

"We are exhausted"… so says Noor Abu Haseera, trapped inside a basement in the Al-Rimal neighborhood in the Gaza Strip, unable to move or even meet her most basic daily needs, amid unimaginable price hikes, where a kilo of sugar costs about 180 dollars and flour about 60 dollars.

Between those who cannot evacuate and those who cannot afford the price of a tent or the journey, life turns into a heavy waiting game that resembles not survival… but a slow depletion of the capacity to endure.

On International Workers' Day, the Palestinian worker faces a harsher reality than ever: caught between the hammer of the siege and the anvil of a war that has spared neither tree nor stone. Factories have been reduced to ashes, hundreds of thousands are left without income, and there is a systematic targeting of every means of survival.

While the women of the world enjoy the comforts of cooking and the stability of four walls, the mother in Gaza battles with a wood fire and the rubble of a tent to offer her family a bite of resilience, dipped in the bitterness of loss and siege.

The freed journalist Ali al-Samoudi emerged from occupation prisons with a completely different body. Half his weight had disappeared, and his features bore the marks of a year of starvation and neglect. From 120 kg to 60 kg… not just a number, but living testimony to what happens behind bars.

Al-Samoudi recounts a harsh reality: food that is insufficient, deprivation of the most basic rights, and continuous torture that turns prisons into a "cemetery for the living."

According to the Palestinian Prisoners' Club, what he endured is not an exception, but part of a systematic policy affecting thousands of prisoners, amid escalating violations and an absence of international protection.

Here, the prisoner does not leave as he entered… rather, he carries with him an invisible burden of pain.

The city of Al-Quds is witnessing continuous escalation in occupation violations, including physical assaults, arrests, and removal orders against citizens, as well as closures and incursions affecting neighborhoods and commercial shops.

In the Shu'afat refugee camp, a young man was beaten while trying to protect his disabled brother, while a guard was arrested at Al-Aqsa Mosque and another was removed for several months as part of a policy targeting Waqf employees. Shops in Silwan were also closed under the pressure of fines, alongside settler attacks and the theft of hundreds of sheep from shepherds.

These practices reflect a systematic policy of tightening the squeeze on people of Al-Quds and targeting their daily lives and livelihoods.

In a new escalation, the occupation has begun attacking the ships of the International Steadfastness Fleet in international waters as they made their way to the Gaza Strip to break the siege.

So far, seven ships out of approximately 58 have been seized, as part of a fleet comprising nearly 1,000 activists from several countries who were on their way to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza. Most of the boats have also been subjected to jamming operations on the high seas.

This step reflects a clear escalation in targeting international movements aimed at breaking the siege, despite their humanitarian nature.

The Palestinian Center for Human Rights is warning of a dangerous escalation in the Gaza Strip, where the war is no longer limited to bombing but has extended to deadly health threats. The spread of rodents, the accumulation of waste, and the absence of sanitation services have created a fertile environment for the outbreak of serious diseases such as cholera, typhoid, scabies, and leptospirosis.

Amid a shortage of vaccines and medicines, and the declining capabilities of municipalities, residents' lives are turning into a daily confrontation with silent epidemics, accompanied by urgent calls to provide immediate support before the health catastrophe worsens.
