Roads for Life – The Talal Kassem Fund for Post Crash Care in Lebanon was born after the tragic
loss of Talal Kassem, a 17 year-old boy who was run over by reckless driving on 19 October 2010, while crossing the street on the way to school. Since a serious post-crash response and prevention work are inter-dependent, post-crash actions are a very important area of road safety . Roads for Life stron
gly believes that a swift and efficient intervention by emergency teams on the scene of the crash would help save each year lives lost on the roads. The framework of Roads for Life falls into the fifth pillar of the Global Plan for the decade of action for Road Safety 2011-2020 initiated by the United Nations called “Post Crash Response”. Since 2011 RFL has been delivering world-class training to professionals involved in the chain of trauma care, to help improve the chance of survival for road victims in the first 60 minutes of the crash, what is called the “Golden Period of Trauma” or the critical period after a crash occurs when proper care can help save lives or reduce disability. The Golden Period is defined as the time period in which the lives of a majority of critically injured victims can be saved if definitive intervention is provided. Only a short period of time from the moment of injury to notify police, dispatch an ambulance to the scene, transport the victim to a hospital, summon the appropriate surgical and support staff, and perform the necessary lifesaving intervention according to a unified standardized protocol for each injury.. Roads for Life has been able to sponsor till date three courses :
1-The Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) for 420 trauma surgeons, and emergency physicians in partnership with FRANSABANK,
